Agility involves obstacles of various kinds; the tunnels, the bars and many more. Now, you can create the obstacles yourself or buy the equipments from the market. You should always buy it from the market in case you are not sure whether the obstacles created by you are safe or not. Your dog's safety should be your first priority. The dog agility equipments are of supreme quality. They are safe and perfect for the training of your dog.
You don't need to buy all sorts of agility equipments that exist in the market. Each dog has it own requirements and you should thus buy accordingly. There are few things that you need to keep in your mind while buying the agility equipments.
Do not crowd the training place with equipments
The number of agility equipments depends on the size of your training area. Many people use their backyard as the training area. Consider the size of your backyard before buying the equipments. Don't fill the backyard with too many of them. However you can go for loads of equipments in case; you have a separate big place for dog training.
Always remember your dog's age
A young dog can do things which an older one won't be able to do. So the dog's age becomes very important as far as agility training goes. The choice of equipments also depends on the age. Your dog may not be able to complete an agility course if it is not selected accordingly. Choose the right course and the right equipments for your dog. Your family can then have a great time with your dog.
Match the equipments with the weight and size of the dog
The weight and the size of the dog is one thing which you should never miss while buying agility equipments. Weigh and measure your dog well before you set out for buying the equipments. The dog cannot train properly if the equipments are not right. Your dog may get trapped inside if it is huge and the equipments are small. The dog may hurt itself in the process.
Good quality equipments are a must
For the equipments to be safe, they must be of good quality. The market is full of different types of equipments manufactured by different companies. To get the best deal, you must do some research work. Dog owners as well as professional trainers do post their comments regarding the equipments on the several dog training forums. Other than the forums, you can also get lots of information from the instruction manual which comes with the equipments. You can also search the internet for more information on these products. You can even shop online.
The equipments can cost you a lot, so you need to consider your budget. Try to get the best possible options within your budget. You will feel proud of your dog once it completes the agility course!

Post a CommentAgility classes aren't always expensive and it is usually FAR more expensive and DANGEROUS to train on your own with no help from someone that knows what they are doing. Also the comments on the dogs age, honestly aren't right either. Granted an 15 year old dog that's laid on the couch all it's life and is 5 or 10 pounds overweight isn't a great candidate as it is, but you DO NOT want to start jumping a 3 month old puppy! It can cripple them! Please, if you want to do agility, first check around to see if there are trainers, can't afford their classes? Tell them what your situation is and see if they can/would work with you. I've seen far more dogs hurt or ruined for competition by someone who tried to train on their own with no experience! Make sure you find an instructor that is positive training based and that they have competed in agility. I've seen plenty of "trainer" who are obedience trainers who bought agility equipment but never even watched an agility trial.
Enjoyable article. I don't train my dogs for show or anything, but I love to learn anything about training.
