Considering Pelicans

A Bit of Verse About My Favorite Bird

Major Jester
Sitting on my desk lamp,
The little pelican watches each day,
Never will he speak,
But I know he has something to say

The most stoic of birds,
Graceful in feeding and flight
I cherish remembering them,
While vacationing, my favorite sight

A descendant of creatures past,
Or so the experts declare
Take a close look as they fly by,
Of their ancient credentials you will become aware

My reflection on pelicans, perhaps,
Seem strange for some to digest
But Pelican still is my favorite,
As meditation remains part of my quest

You know I guess the pelican is unique. Good piece.

We see a lot of pelicans here on the SC coast. Now I'll think of this nice verse when I spot them. Thanks.

One of my favorite childhood books was Don Freeman's 'Come Again, Pelican'.
