Console War Continues While Wii Dominates Sales Charts

How Do the Systems Stack Up Game Wise?

Michael Holt
Now that the three consoles have been on the market for a while we really get into the core of what these systems are about and exactly what they are capable of doing.
The sales of the 3 NextGen Consoles: Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, and the Sony Playstation 3, have been very interesting. The Nintendo Wii sold more units then both the other consoles combined. What does this indicate about how the consoles rank up? Someone once said that a consumer's spending habits are the best indicator of product value. In this case the quote holds true.

The Nintendo Wii
The Nintendo Wii, with it's cutting edge remote that coordinates your actual physical movements into the games you are playing, appears so far to be the console with the most potential for the future. When you look at everything the Wii has to offer it's staggering. This Console has the potential to do some very cool things. As of now games like Wii sports have demonstrated the basics of what Wii has to offer; Zelda has been a huge hit because it provides the same classic gameplay of previous Zelda titles but now with motions of your hands and swings of your imaginary sword it becomes an entirely different experience. Madden has also been hailed an extremely unique take on interactive sports games; while playing the gamer actually does the throwing motion every pass. So far Wii Sports has been the most universally accepted, it's ability to let gamers physical play against their friends has been it's key to success. Somehow the unique playing method has consumers not so focused on the actual graphics (Wii Boxing dosent look anything like Fight Night for the XBOX 360) and they have accepted the cartoonish quality of the Wii instead of the brutal realism that the XBOX 360 and PS3 offer.

The XBOX 360
The Xbox 360, though brilliantly well done in it's own right just dosent entrance the consumer as much as the innovation provided by the Wii. With brutally realistic shooters prevailing for right now, this provides a gamer with cutting edge graphics and some innovative games/concepts. The Xbox 360 is definitely better then the old Xbox but just hasn't proved itself so much to make current Xbox gamers go get a new one. Guitar Hero 2 is coming out soon, which should appeal to many ex-Sony gamers.

The PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3, though packed with anything cutting edge the developers could gather, just hasn't proven itself to be worth the pricetag. It does have the best graphics and has more Games being made then either of the others. A lot of very interesting games are coming up soon, it's a possibility PS3 could gain some ground when it's big time games like Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six.
Interested? Sony PlayStation 3 (60GB)
