Constantine Not for Everyone Still a Gripping Film

Constantine contains very graphic images and isn't a movie for everyone

Before I left for California, an ongoing joke I had was about Keanu Reeves. Every now and then you just have to laugh at his efforts and move on.

Needless to say, Constantine did not look or sound good to me. Two of my friends went to see it and told me it was great and I would love it, instead I laughed some more and ignored them. Well, eventually one of the two forced me to see it and unfortunately, she was right and I was wrong.

Constantine is a bizarre movie that is definitely not for everyone. The movie is very graphic and has many images that are hard to shake afterwards. Nevertheless I really liked this movie and found it unlike anything I have seen lately.

Keanu still is not a good actor but, just like in the Matrix, he has found a role that works for him. So, even though his monotonous bad acting is very visible, one can look past that and just take it as part of the character.

Keanu Reeves plays an exorcist of demons. He, of course, has a young and funny sidekick played by Shia LaBeouf. The love interest is Rachel Weisz, she's a cop who has a knack of finding the bad guy and relinquishing him.

The story starts whenever Rachel's twin sister commits suicide. Being a devout Catholic, Weisz is sure something evil is at play. Our characters eventually all meet and the fight between good and evil commences.

Constantine brings in many religious characters. Tilda Swinton, who plays Gabriel, is almost an exact copy of Emma Thompson. We're always hearing of how a young actor is the new old actor. For example, Tom Hanks is the new Jimmy Stewart. Well Tilda Swinton is the new Emma Thompson. I'm serious, the resemblance is uncanny.

Many will go to see Constantine and hate it. In fact they are probably right. On the other hand, Constantine is unlike any other movie being offered to us right now.

Dealing with demons, religion, the paranormal and a protagonist that is the biggest jerk in the world, I don't blame people for hating Constantine. I found the movie to be very entertaining though and would even go see it again.
