Check prescriptions - Many prescriptions and quite a few over the counter medications cause constipation in some individuals. This includes many decongestants, antiacids, and pain medications just to name a few. Consult your doctor for more information on prescriptions that might cause constipation. And if the prescription is the culprit behind the constipation problem have the doctor prescribe an alternative medication that does not cause constipation..

Add fiber - Often, adding a bit more fiber to the diet helps many individuals avoid constipation problems. There are plenty of easy ways to work a bit more fiber into your diet. The easiest way of least resistance is to take a fiber supplement. The one that is often recommended by doctors is to add more fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans to meals.
