Neighborhood: Haight/Ashbury
This Constitution Day marks the 223rd year since Sen. Robert C. Byrd, a Democrat from West Virginia, established all secoundary schools to be provided federal funding for educational expenses on this day. At the University of San Francisco, USF, a panel discussion took place on Sept. 15 at the colleges of Arts and Sciences. Two speakers presented interesting points of view concerning political controversies in human rights. Both Prop. 8 and immigrant rights have been widely exposed and debated or protested in the press. Phillip Hawg, a former Bay Area legal aid attorney who graduted from Harvard, now works on Lawyers Commitee. He gave proof of involved citizens for each difference in immigrant rights during his discussion with local students. Afterward, a deputy attorney from the city's office, Mollie Lee, brought to light the litigation fight over Prop. 8.
