Organize things. Go through file cabinets, desks or drawers and organize everything in them. You could start with drawers or a desk that have a lot of paperwork, then maybe you can transfer some of those papers into a file box or cabinet. This will help you to find things more easily and keep everything looking neat.
Clean out your closet or clothes drawers. Go through your clothes and see if there is anything you don't wear anymore that you could donate or give to someone you know that may be able to fit into them.
Exercise. Exercising is a good way to feel productive. You are helping both your body and mind when you exercise. Exercise has been shown to improve the way you feel and elevate your mood as well as many other benefits that help your body. It will also help to increase your energy levels.
Read. Reading, especially self help magazines or educational books, is a good way to gain knowledge and learn new things. Learning things through reading is a constructive way to spend your time.
Write. Write a short story, a few poems or jot down some thoughts in a journal. Writing is a productive way to keep your mind creative and occupied.
Take a class or lessons. Maybe you always wanted to play the piano but never decided to get lessons. Play an instrument, take dance lessons, join a ceramics or pottery class. Do something constructive that you might enjoy and you may see that you can bring out some your hidden talents. The more you enjoy something that you do, the more apt you are to want to keep doing it and get better at it.
Cook or bake. If you don't know how to cook or bake, maybe you could try learning. Some recipe books tell you the basics of cooking or baking in the beginning of the book. You could ask a friend or relative how to make a particular meal or how to bake a good batch of cookies. You could also look online for easy recipes.
Volunteering is a constructive way to spend your time. You could use the free time you may have now to research different volunteer opportunities in your area. Then you could call and find out what the duties are for the opportunity that you wish to pursue. If it sounds like something you would like to do, ask the person on the phone how you can start volunteering for them. Volunteering is very rewarding and will make you feel good about yourself.
Paint, rearrange furniture, fix things in the house. Spend this free time constructively by updating or fixing things that need fixing around the house.
