Consumer Product Safety Commission Recalls DesignWare® Confetti Bursts

Performax and Wilton 10" Sliding Miter Saws Are Also Recalled

According to a press release on November 29, 2007 from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, two more products manufactured in China have been recalled. The DesignWare Confetti Bursts and the Performax and Wilton 10" Sliding Miter Saws have both been voluntarily recalled. Below are the products and their descriptions.

DesignWare® Confetti Bursts
Approximately 60,000 units of DesignWare Cnfetti Bursts manufactured in China and distributed by American Greetings Corporation, have been sold at various discount, toy, drug, grocery, party, and specialty and gift stores nationwide from December 2003 through September 2007. The confetti packages were sold for about $3. The bags contain confetti in plastic bags. When the bags are inflated, the instructions say to squeeze the bag and confetti bursts out. Each package contains six confetti bursts. The confetti is being recalled because paint on the individual bags of confetti contains excessive levels of lead. This is a violation of the federal lead paint standard.

At this time there have been no reported incidents or injuries.

If you have these confetti bags you are urged to immediately take the recalled confetti bursts away from children. Contact American Greetings for instructions on returning the confetti bursts to American Greetings. You will receive a coupon redeemable wherever American Greetings' products are sold.

For further information, call American Greetings Corp. at (800) 777-4891 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. You can also visit their web site at www.ag.com.

Performax and Wilton 10" Sliding Miter Saws
Approximately 7,100 units of these miter saws, maunufactured in China and distributed by WMH Tool Group Inc., have been sold at home centers and hardware stores nationwide from August 2006 through March 2007. They were sold for between $150 and $250.

The two models recalled are:
Performax model number 90206
Wilton model number 34570
The 10-inch sliding miter saws with date code and serial numbers ranging from W062505 to W070405. The model, date code and serial numbers are listed on a black label on the motor housing of the saw.

The reason these two models of miter saws are being recalled is that the saw handle's switch can fail. This may cause the saw to smoke, spark, trip circuit breakers and disable the safety brake. The saw could also keep operating unless the unit is unplugged. This could present a laceration hazard to consumers. There have been reports of six incidents with the saws. No injuries have been reported.

If you have one of these miter saws you should immediately stop using them and call WMH to receive a replacement miter saw or a full refund.

For further information, contact WMH at (800) 689-9928 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. You can also visit their web site at www.wmhtoolgroup.com

What is with all the recalls lately? Do businesses no longer care about our safety or are the inspectors all being paid off?
