Consumer Product Safety Commission Recalls Horseshoe Magnets
Outdoor Vacuums and Fishing Games Also Recalled
Below are descriptions of all three recalled products.
Horseshoe Magnets
Approximately 153,000 units of the Horseshoe Magnets, manufactured in India and imported by United Scientific, of Waukegan, Illinois, were sold at various independent distributors nationwide from March 1995 through September 2007. Each horseshoe magnet was sold for about $1. These magnets were sold to schools for use in their science classes. The recalled magnets were sold in 5 sizes and have red paint on the surface of the magnet.
Recalled magnets have product numbers listed as:
SHM020 (two inch)
SHM030 (three inch)
SHM040 (four inch)
SHM050 (five inch)
SHM060 (six inch)
The reason for the recall is because surface paint on the magnets contains high levels of lead. This violates the federal lead paint standards. At this time there have been no reported incidents or injuries from this product. If you have these horseshoe magnets you should immediately stop using them and contact United Scientific to receive your replacement product.
For further information you should contact United Scientific at their toll-free number: (888) 284-8570 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. You can also email the company at: consumeraffairs@unitedsci.com.
Billy Goat MultiVac Outdoor VacuumsApproximately 1,600 units of the Billy Goat MultiVac Outdoor Vacumms, manufactured in the United States by Billy Goat Industries Inc, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, were sold at outdoor power equipment and rental dealers nationwide from June 2007 through November 2007. Each vacuumm was sold for between $1,500 and $1,850.
The reason for the recall is that the fuel tank could possibly crack causing fuel to leak. When gasoline leaking from the fuel tank is ignited, a fire or explosion can occur. A fire and burn hazard would result.
This black and green outdoor vacuum has a red motor housing. "Billy Goat" is written on the vacuum's bag. You can find the model and serial number written on the label directly below the height adjustment crank located on the left side of the vacuum. The following outdoor vacuums with the model and serial numbers are included in the recall:
Models:
MV650H
MV650SPH

Fishing Games
Approximately 14,000 units of the Fishing Game, manufactured in China and distributed by Far East Brokers and Consultants Inc., of Jacksonville, Florida, have been sold at Grand Union Family Markets, Southern Family Markets, P&C Stores, Publix Super Markets, and Food Lion stores nationwide from October 2007 through November 2007. Each fishing game sold for about $10.
The recalled game has a fishing pole, one large battery operated fish and three small wind-up fish. You can find the product and UPC numbers on the game's packaging:
UPC #011546208270
Product #25741
The reason for the recall is because parts of the game contain excessive levels of lead. This is a violation of the federal lead paint standard.
If you have this game you should immediately take it away from children. Take the game back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
For further information you can contact the Far East Brokers and Consultants at their toll-free number: (877) 695-8354 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. You can also log on to their Web site at: www.fareastbrokers.com.

Post a CommentAs long as they don't recall the horses, its great news to me!:)
Excellent info~Thanks for sharing this!
Very good to have this information.
Oh no...more lead and fire dangers. I wish the USA would make more of these things so we didn't have to worry about the imported crap!
Fillings are non-magnetic, but I know you wouldn't put a magnet in your mouth anyway. Great article Janice.
I couldn't get lead poisoning from the magnets, because if I ever put them in my mouth they would stick like crazy to the fillings. The fire hazard concerned me a bit. Thanks for the info.
With so many recalls lately- who exactly is manufacturing these items? Jeeze.
