Consumer Review: BlackBerry PlayBook

Kitty Stevens
I am a true geek at heart. I love gizmos and gadgets and frequently play with them "just because I can." When the Blackberry Playbook came out, I knew that I had to try it. I had the iPad before and loved it. Still, the iPad lacked the freedom of use that the Blackberry promised. When I discovered that the Blackberry application department needed submissions I knew that I had to try it. I didn't care what the application was. I just knew that I had to try it out. Here is my review of the Blackberry Playbook.

The first thing that caught my attention was the ability to use Flash. It was the thing that I hated about the iPad. It lacked Flash. That meant that everything that loaded on the screen of every web page was in "html" or a bad version of the original. Being a technology geek, that was not going to work for me. I needed that Flash. The Blackberry Playbook uses Flash for everything that the iPad lacked. I was hooked.

When I received my Playbook I was amazed at how small it was. It is like the little sister of the iPad. It is actually better for me because I have relatively small hands. It fits me like it was created for me. I love it. The look is slick and the screen is significantly better than the iPad had been for me. That made it the best choice for me. I am hooked on this tablet. I particularly love the fact that you can use the side to open and re-size windows. That means that you can have multiple windows and applications going at the same time. That is efficient and essential in my line of work. I would never be able to get my work done on the iPad the way that I can on the Blackberry Playbook.

I find it funny that they called it the Playbook. I use it for work more than anything. In fact, I think every business person should have this tablet. It is amazing. Still, it does offer some serious "play." You can watch movies and play any game that you could imagine. Like the iPad, it allows you to flip the screen around at any angle. This comes in handy for game-play on video games.

Now back to the applications. I wanted to design something that writers could use. I have to share that later. Meanwhile, know that the applications section for Blackberry is aiming to compete with Android. It has already beat Apple. It beats them because the developers of the open-source applications feature can use Flash. It is going to be fun to watch the Blackberry Playbook as it grows in competition with all of the other tablets. It is highly recommended by me to you.

Great review. I'm not a gizmo addict, but a lot of people are. My gizmos are related to making music through my guitar in different styles. Each to their own. I'm glad you like the Blackberry.
