Consumer Review: HTC Flyer Tablet

Kitty Stevens
The HTC Flyer Tablet has a really cool name but falls short of the other tablets in this category. There are some fairly large issues with it and some pretty neat things that it can do. The first problem is the price. It will cost about $500 for the tablet itself. Then you have no stylus for it. You would think that a brand new device would have this included. After all, consider the other electronic gadgets that are on the market. Can you imagine the Nintendo DS not having a stylus with it? It not only includes a stylus but it also places it in a really neat place for ease of use. That is not the case here. You will have to pay another $80 to get the stylus. HTC, that is just ridiculous.

Then there is the lack of applications. It has very few applications that allow you to use the stylus that is available. Applications are the way that most compete in the market. For HTC to overlook this fact just seems like a really bad idea. Still, they did overlook it, or potentially ignore the facts. Either way, your HTC Flyer Tablet will not have many applications that you can use. That alone should drive the popularity down.

The other problem with this tablet is the failure of the stylus to be able to sideswipe. It just doesn't happen. Why HTC failed at this is odd. It is important for most people that use a tablet. Otherwise it just becomes weird. It really reminds me of the old phones that used the stylus. Windows cell phones were like that some time ago. You just expect something better from HTC. It has previously been known for superior products. The HTC Flyer Tablet is not one of those successes.

The last aspect that fails with this tablet is the camera. Any decent tablet must have a good camera that takes pictures and allows for web chat. This fails very badly at this aspect. The pictures are reminiscent of the cell phone cameras from the middle nineties. The resolution is very bad and the picture quality was fuzzy. It is not a strong point. Well, at least it has one.

Not sure just what a tablet is -- I recently obtained a Color Nook for half-price. Got to learn that one! But I have to admit -- not including a stylus... Come on guys!
