Recently, I decided that I needed to have a website to promote my business. Because I am both inexperienced and "graphically challenged", I looked into hosting services that offered website templates or site builders. After hours of research, I finally returned to one of the first services that I had checked out at the heavily advertised www.godaddy.com. I registered my chosen domain name and put my faith in WebSite Tonight®.
WebSite Tonight® is advertised as being fast, easy, and fun, enabling users at any level to build a professional-looking website. There are no manuals to read and no software to master before getting started, which is very nice for people (like me) who have no patience for technical language. There is nothing to download. Your site will be built and managed from your ever familiar browser. And, with WebSite Tonight®, you get free hosting and free email, so all you need to get started is a domain name.
Your first step will be to decide on what type of package you're looking for. WebSite Tonight® offers a wide selection of plans. The list below will show you the details of each:
Basic- One Page, 5 MB of disk space, bandwidth of 500 MB, 1 free email account, $2.95 per month
Economy- Five Pages, 50 MB of disk space, bandwidth of 1000 MB, 1 free email account, $4.95 per month
Deluxe- Ten Pages, 2,000 MB of disk space, bandwidth of 100,000 MB, 200 free email accounts, $8.95 per month
Premium- Twenty Pages, 4,000 MB of disk space, bandwidth of 200,000 MB, 400 free email accounts, $12.95 per month
No matter which package you choose, you can always upgrade later. You can purchase your chosen plan for a specified number of months or years. If you do buy 12 months at a time or more, you are eligible for a 20% discount. The service plans are very flexible, which is not common with many web hosting plans that often require a minimum service agreement of one year. With WebSite Tonight®, you can try it out for one or two months and if you don't like it, you aren't stuck paying for it. GoDaddy.com also offers convenient payment options for all of their services. They accept PayPal, credit cards, e-checks, money orders, and cash.
After you have picked and paid for your package, you can get started. You can jump right in or if you do feel like reading up, GoDaddy.com offers a tutorial/virtual tour of the WebSite Tonight® program.
Your first task involves entering general information about your site, such as headings, subheadings or tag lines, copyright text, and default emails. WebSite Tonight® recommends choosing a heading and tag line that reflects your site's topic, theme, message, or business name. The copyright statement is optional and can be removed from the page if you do not consider it necessary. The default email is your contact email address. Visitors will use this address to contact you. If you choose not to enter anything, your web hosting email address will be used.
After that is finished, you move onto choosing the design for your website. There are 190+ different design templates to choose from. When you are deciding on your template, look for design and layout only, because the pictures and colors can be changed later.
After your template has been chosen, you will need to choose the color scheme. WebSite Tonight® recommends keeping the color scheme the same, because each template has been carefully designed with specific colors by graphic design experts. If you don't like the default color scheme though, you can choose your own. All design colors can be customized, including background colors, text colors, button colors, etc.
Now that your frame is complete, you will begin building your pages. You will choose a name for each page, about us, contact us, FAQ, etc and then you will type in the text that you want to appear on each page. You can use HTML or you can type everything normally using the WebSite Tonight® text editor. There are several fonts to choose from and you can also download additional fonts as well. Regarding the images, you can keep the default images, use one of 1700+ WebSite Tonight® images, or you can download your own pictures for each page.
The program automatically saves pages as you create them and also gives you the option to wipe out everything you have done and start over in case the design isn't as impressive as you thought it would be. The best part of the building process is convenience. If you have already created your text somewhere else, you can use the available copy and paste option.
Your final step is to publish your website to the internet. Using the available spell check program, check your site for errors. Next, enter keywords into the easy to use entry form. These keywords will help people find your site. Type in as many as you want; the more you use the better. Click on the publish site button and voilà, you're finished!
Your site can be managed and edited very easily by accessing your GoDaddy.com account. The updates are instant. GoDaddy.com also promises 99.9% uptime for your site, the highest guarantee in the biz. They also promise excellent service and support for their customers.
I have only been a customer for a short time, but I am very pleased thus far. I had no problems building my site and I have had no problems updating it. Overall, the service plans are fairly priced, making WebSite Tonight® one of the best package deals on the internet.

Post a CommentTerrible! Steer clear! This is very frustrating! I make changes that don't save- I upload photos that don't load- and now say that no photos have been added! So many bugs- every time I try to work on our webpage. I don't think I will be renewing after this month- this is terrible- and should not be this frustrating! It is time consuming to make changes I have already made 3 or 4 times. When I change the color of a block and I go to a different page- then return- it is white again! When I change the font- then click outside of the box it returns to a different random font I have never even used! It is very difficult to add a box outside of the template- sometimes works sometimes not. Am not very happy with this website builder. Have bought 1 month at fat cow and will be giving that a shot.
I agree it sucks! I used dream weaver on a different site and uploaded my own files through FTP and had no problems. Now I'm trying to redesign a site created with websitetonight and am having the hardest time. You would think I had no web design knowledge. It seems to have a mind of it's own and still makes it difficult to insert your own html. Also Go Daddy always seems to have problems with their site. It will take forever to load a page, then log me out for no activity....?!?!? I would NOT recommend websitetonight especially if you can design on your own.
"Handy" and "flexible"?!? It's one of the worst pieces of software - of any type - that I've ever encountered, with almost no flexibility at all. I built a template based site in 2000 - 12 years ago - that was much less frustrating than this. Do NOT fall for the positive reviews.... it's always hard to know who to believe on the internet. But really, you don't-don't-don't want this. If you want to try it, talk to someone first and make sure you can get you $$ back. You will notice tht may web hosting outfits offer a trial period or money back guarantee. Godaddy does not.
It is very difficult to read a mass of gray text. Please use paragraphs -- especially when writing for computer screens.

This is NOT an accurate review of this program. I am 28 and consider myself above average with computers yet do not know HTML. I picked this program because I assumed go daddy being suck a big company would have an excellent site builder. I WAS WRONG. This is the most frustrating program ever used. You cannot change hardly anything without "upgrading." All of your pages will look the exact same as far as pictures and colors. A horrible excuse for a site builder.
trying to help out a friend who has no clue about building web sites and, well, it's what I do. No problem I thought. I can work with any interface even though I'm usually thinking, 'heck I can do this myself'.
Now I find I can't even figure out how to simply delete an unwanted page. I'm thinking 'uh oh'. And now I see the comments here about how it sucks and I'm thinking I might be agreeing soon. ):
I just want to delete a page and add another. With a simple ftp connection I'd be done already. However I'm HOURS into this.
Oy.
Website tonight sucks. I bought several domain names and paid for 2 website tonight accounts. This is my 4th attempt in a year to try and build the sites. I'm an extremely busy mother, business owner, and volunteer. They charge you from day one, whether or not you get your site up. I lost all my work every time I tried. I am totally frustrated. You cannot manipulate your uploads to fit the spots, giving you weird pieces of your photos.

Godaddy has always given me the very best in customer service. What confuses me is why they have this absolute piece of $hi+ called website tonight.
I have no experience publishing websites but am proficient at publishing other documents. The website tonight interface made me want to tear my f'ing hair out. I absolutely HATE it. It is so cumbersome and I got so frustrated trying to do what would ordinarily be the very simplest things like deleteing a block. I'm done with this thing.
I think that at this point it might be better to buy a program that can do this than try to use the on-line option.
I just designed my first website ever, have no HTML knowledge and admit to a little frustration but am quite happy with my site, and the Quick Shopping Cart I linked it to. I managed to change the look of the template so it matched what I had envisioned before I started. For people who actually know how to set up websites, shopping carts, credit card acceptance, security certificates etc from scratch, maybe this program seems stupid. But for those of us who can envision what we want, don't have any website designing experience and don't want to pay thousands of dollars to get something up and running then this is a great tool. Also I love the fact that I know how to change and update my website whenever I want, since I designed it. If I hired a website designer to do this for me, I would probably be tethered to them forever. I am a happy camper.
