Consumer Warning: Don't Buy "Unsearched" Lots on EBay

Are Unsearched Lots a Scam?

You see them all over eBay. Unsearched lots of coins and baseball cards and more. Some people love them, some people hate them. Usually they are "searched" and all the good stuff removed. Its all a scam to try to get you to buy. Occasionally the seller will throw something in to make it seem like its not a scam but this will probably never be you. I have bought a few of these lots of coins and baseball cards and other little trinkets and believe me they are a rip off. How eBay lets this go on is beyond me. It is probably because they can't prove that the lots are actually "unsearched" and the sellers do get decent feedback. The sellers get decent feedback because well they sell so many of these lots and the negatives get hidden. Most people on eBay don't leave negative feedback because they want to be nice.

For instance I bought a few unsearched lots of coins and baseball cards that turned out to be absolutely worthless. First off baseball cards from the 1980's and 1990's are absolutely worthless which is mostly what I got. Secondly I got uncleaned roman coins at $2 a piece. This is one of the biggest scams going. First off, the coins are very common. Second, they are piratically worthless unless they are silver or have a famous emperor on them(very rare). Third, they are so old that most of them have nothing on them! Most of them you can't even tell if they were ever even a coin or not! I'm sure there are more unsearched lots on eBay than just coins and baseball cards but this is just a few examples.

One area where people have reported success is "unsearched bins" from storage houses that people basically abandoned or stopped paying for. These can be worth the money, but it is basically like gambling because there could be absolutely nothing in the bin at all. Also how do you know that these bins haven't been searched either. I would be very skeptical when buying one of these bins.

In conclusion, unsearched lots on eBay could be a scam and you should do your research before you buy anything the buyer has labeled "unsearched" because it probably isn't. If you had a bunch of stuff that was worth money wouldn't you take the time to search through it and pick out the really valuable stuff. Claiming they don't have "time" is absurd. Who doesn't have the time to look for money?
