Consumption

Laura Casias
She stretches herself out
to be completely consumed;
love, life, body.
Hopefully sighing
by effortless movements.
Eyes shut,
she dreamed of a better life,
one without the pains of the past.
Shifting under the weight,
she was filled.
Emotion she'd never experienced
overwhelmed her,
and she let a smile
break the darkness of the night.
Consumption,
and being consumed.
She stretches herself out,
already missing the resistant force.
Content, she lay there.
Bare,
physically and emotionally.
She imagined the course of the following day.
Phone calls,
words exchanged and similar feelings.
A release
of all her fears
so close in sight.
A family?
Perhaps.
One mended by a new refreshing thread.
She slept soundly that evening.

Days later,
she stretched herself out
and cried.
Left empty.
