Contact Lenses: Proper Care

Ms. Uknowhoo
As more and more people are ditching glasses for contact lenses, I have noticed that people don't really know how to take care of them. I mean, putting on your contact lenses in a dirty, noisy classroom may not be the best place to put them on. And as always, I have created a guide. This time, it's on how to properly take care of your content lenses.

If you're a first-timer, you might feel uneasy about putting something in your eye. And this is why you should always give yourself plenty of time to put t your contacts on. This goes for anyone. I admit, I've tried putting them on early in the morning when I was twenty minutes late for school. The results? It was just frustrating. I spent another twenty minutes in the bathroom itself. So always give yourself time!

Before putting on your contacts, however, make sure your hands are clean. This may seem like a no- brainer, but yes, I do know people that don't even wash their hands before handling their contacts. And unless you want your eyes to get irritated, make sure you don't have any specs (dirt, lint). Speaking of which, it is highly advisable that you use lint-free paper towels. They are usually the ones that are brown and somewhat rough. If you don't have any, just use your hands while they're still wet.

To rub or not to rub? I have contact lens solution that advertise "no rubbing". If you were taught that you should rub your contact lenses to clean them well, you might be just as confused as me. The solution? Don't be lazy- go ahead and rub them. Better safe than sorry!

A clean case is a happy case! Now that we're on a cleaning topic, make sure your case is clean. If not, clean with dish soap and warm water. Make sure you get all that dirt off. Once it's clean, set to dry.

If something gets in your eye, try your hardest not to rub it. It's not only bad for your eye, but the contact lense (gets scratched). What you should do is blink many times and if possible, take them out. Since you know that you should carry extra solution with you, take it out and use it to clean the contact. You will most likely be able to see what was irritating your eye.

Also, make sure you are replacing your old contacts with some good new fresh ones! And don't sleep with them if they're not meant to be slept in. If you take lots of care of your contacts, you will definitely know by how comfortable they feel!
