To Make a Contemporary Eco Friendly Headboard You Will Need:
Placemats
Empty Oatmeal Containers
Heavy Duty Fabric Glue
Plywood
Picture Hanging Hooks
Screws
Power Drill
To get started you can use any cylinder shaped food container or even cardboard roll from the craft store. Pringles cans, old wrapping paper rolls, paper towel rolls, and cardboard tubing will work.
If you do have left over PVC pipes leftover from a project, then cut this about 12 inches tall and use those.
Now, take all of yoru cylinders. Use the power drill to predrill a hole in the back of each one. This is a great idea so you can save time later.
Tip: Drill this hole about 3 inches down from the top edge.
Go ahead and cut out a sheet fo plywood to the width of your be. You can make this as tall as you want. Once the back install the picture hanging hooks.
Now, on the front start laying out your cylinders. Marker where the whole is will touch the board. You are covering the front of the board with all the cylinders. They must butt up next to each other on all sides.
Pre drill the holes. Do not drill completely through the wood, only start the holes.
Plug in the hot glue gun.
Lay out the first placemat, top if off with a cylinder. Cut out the fabric so it can easily wrap around the cylinder and over lap about an inch.
Run a bed of glue along the edge of the fabric, roll the cylinder in the fabric, and press the seam closed.
Repeat on all cylinders.
Now, start screwing the cylinders onto the front of the wood headboard. You can use a washer and a screw for greater stability. The washer will help hold the fabric covered cylinders and prevent any ripping.
Cut and trim top and bottom cylinders to clean line on the contemporary headboard.
Hang on studs in the wall and you are finished.
Tip: Hang this about 2 feet above the head of the bead if you are using the cardboard containers This will prevent you from leaning on them and crushing yoru eco friendly contemporary headboard!
