Contenders for This Years Masters Golf Tournament
Who Will Wear the Green Jacket This Year?
Many golf fans have already began speculating on this years winner. Last year Tom Watson surprised many by staying close to the leaders for three days. It was Phil Mickelson winning his third green jacket, as he posted a 16 under par. Tiger Wood is always lurking. Fans wonder if he can overcome the distractions to once again wear the green.
Then, you have players like last year runner up Lee Westwood or Fred Couples. These two are usually found high on the leader-board. The winner at Doral was Nick Watney. Watney scorched the Blue Monster with a 16 under par this past weekend. He is primed and ready to go at the Masters. Then there is Dustin Johnson. He was 14 under at the Doral and shot a final day of 67.
Others that could be a threat are Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan and Michael Bradley, who just won the Puerto Rico Open. Old school fans could be rooting for players like Craig Stadler, Vijay Singh, David Thoms, or Davis Love the III.
Past Experiences at the Masters
There have been many memorial moments at the Masters. Who can forget Jack Nicklaus as he walked the fairway to his final green on number 18. In 1997, Tiger Wood became the youngest (21) to win the Masters at that time. He won by the largest stroke number of all time (12). 1986 saw Jack Nicklaus win at the age of 46. He hadn't won a tour event in two years. 1964 was the final year that saw Arnold Palmer win the Masters. At the time he became the first player with four championships. 1960 had Ken Venturi winning. Arnold Palmer needed to make birdies on the final two holes for the win. He did just that. Then there was 1975. In an exciting finish, Nicklaus defeated both Tommy Weiskopf and Johnny Miller by won stroke. It is considered one of the best golf tournaments in history.
So the stage is once again set for this year. Who will be wearing the green jacket on April 10Th in Augusta?
