Continuing Your Education

Many adults have returned to college. College is no longer only for graduating high school students. Many adults have chosen to go back to school to further their education. Some return to learn new job skills while others return and take a new career path. Whatever your reason for returning to school, you should congratulate yourself. Deciding to further your education is the first step to success.

Picking a Major

Before you choose your school, decide what you want to study. There are a lot of schools who have specific programs that can help you be successful. Choosing a major can be a tough decision. What will the job market be? What will I make an hour? Will I be entitled to benefits? What are the career choices?

Most schools have counselors available to help you choose a path of study. They will work with you to help decide what you would be best suited in. However, some students do not choose their majors before starting school. Most programs require general studies. If you cannot decide on a major, you can begin by taking general Math and English classes.

Once you have chosen your school, go to the financial aid office. Most adults do not realize that they qualify for financial aid. Financial aid is does not only include loans; there are grants available that do not have to be paid back. Each school will be able to help you apply for any type of assistance you need. Tuition, books, and fees are all a part of normal charges. Check with your school to find specific amounts on costs.

Admissions

All colleges have admission requirements. This can include a HS diploma, GED, testing, and other qualifications. Check with admission offices for each school. All colleges have their own specific guidelines. You will need all transcripts, including any colleges you may have previously attended. Health programs usually require extended guidelines. This may include physicals, dental records, and immunization records.
