Contract Signed to Build New Ships for Disney

Christopher Blydenburgh
There is a contract written between Disney Cruise Line® and Meyer Werft shipyard which says that two new ships will be built. The contract was signed on April 23 by the President of Disney Cruise Line, Tom McAlpin, and the managing partner of Meyer Werft shipyard of Papenburg, Bernard Meyer. There were lots of happy cast members attending. McAlpin told reporters that the team at Disney Cruise Line were really excited about this new contract and that they are looking forward to the cooperation with Meyer Werft. The new ships will focus on the families and they will be even better than the existing ones.

In February Disney Cruise Line started negotiating with Meyer Werft about a contract to build two 124 000-ton ships. The ships that will hopefully be launched in 2011 and 2012 will meet the demands for the Disney cruises by more than doubling the capacity of passengers. The ships that already exist are 83 000 tons, which means that the planned ships will be a lot bigger with its 124 000 tons each. Both of the new ships will be built in Papenburg in Germany at the Meyer Werft shipyard.

Disney Cruise Line launched their first family cruises in 1998 and that made the cruise industry popular among families. The premier ships were made to make people reconnect with their families and to experience the time of their lives onboard. It was possible to experience spa treatments as well as theatre entertainment and there were plenty of amenities for children. The first ships of the Disney Cruise Lines were built to be similar with the ocean liners of the 30's and the new ones will be that as well. The designers of the ships got their inspiration from the classic trans-Atlantic ships with a black body, two smokestacks and porthole windows. To do something extra out of the classical design the Disney company added some extra to the ships, they made the ships contain the same colors as Mickey Mouse, which means black and white, yellow and red. On the new cruising ships that Disney will launch there will be glamorous scrollwork and images which will remind you of the good old days of cruising. The most common cruises with Disney Cruise Line last for 3-, 4- or 7- days. They get more and more popular and lately cruises to the Mediterranean as well as to the West Coast have set booking records. Tom McAlpin tells us that Disney Cruise Line are looking forward to offer their guest a lot of new experiences and adventures and possibilities to see even more of the world. With these new ships that will be possible.
