Contrails

This is a Poem I Wrote Inspired by the View Out the Back Door This Morning

Tony Payne
Contrails is a poem that I wrote based on what I saw out of the back door this morning, turquoise skies and a lot of contrails, jets flying off to exotic destinations. I hope you like the poem and the photographs that accompany it:

Early morning, Turquoise skies
Fluffy contrails way up high

Where are they going
Where have they been
What wonderful sights
Have their passengers seen

Some are taking people home
Paris, Frankfurt, maybe Rome

Some taking people far away
For a once in a lifetime holiday

Others traveling far for work
Exotic travel can be a perk

But also it can be a pain
Away from their families yet again

For work I traveled years ago
To exotic lands I used to go

Some wonderful places I have seen
With Pyramids, Volcanoes, Rain Forests green

These days though I lead a quieter life
Working in an office, going home to my wife

But on mornings like these with frost on the ground
I look up at those contrails all around

I sometimes wish I could travel some more
There is always somewhere new to explore

Maybe we will win the lottery one day
And have money to spend on a holiday

There are places we both have yet to see
Travel is best when my wife is with me

But here on the ground I just sit and dream
Watching leaves on the trees turn to gold from green

It's peaceful and calm, just sitting at home
But sometimes my mind just longs to go roam

A very nice poem, Tony. Got me to thinking about past travels as well.

Isn't our creative imagination delightful? You got all that from looking out your back door. You must open it more often Tony.

Love this poem! Perhaps you could make this into a song? :)

I never knew what they were called either. And I didn't know they were vapors. Great poem. I could use a vacation to an exotic locale, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. I like being at home, though, too.

Sometimes no view is better than that which can be found at home.
