Control Deforestation Using a Critical Strategy

Keith Dailey
Since 2003, over eighty percent of forested areas are found to be compromised. A satellite view of these deforested areas will virtually show that the rich green lands which were once ours, are no more.

What is visible, are forested areas very few and far between. While the topic of controlling of deforestation is a matter of controversy in today's context, mankind has had the liberty to decide on the rate at which it should happen. At the same time, it is possible that the key to the survival of this planet could be man himself. With the total disregard to the care of the earth it does seem an unlikely possibility that there is going to be a turnaround in the flourishing of this earth, without the contribution of mankind.

The number one hope for the requirements of living and breathing on the planet lie with the flourishing of nature, which has been severely threatened these days. Though many are unaware, the largest forests are the lungs of this planet, as they are the home of the earth's carbon supply. When this component of the earth is not functioning as it should, we will have irreversibly lost the vital requirements for life to be sustained on this planet. The support systems provided to us by nature should not be repaid with anything but utmost care. Restoration should be addressed with great zeal before all control is lost.

Simple Steps to Preserve Nature

More complex ways to conserve nature could be said to be looking at the larger picture where we could learn to distinguish between luxuries and necessities, and our contribution could be to combat this problem by eliminating from out lifestyles those things that are harmful to nature and that we do not really need. Several things that we might feel are nice to own could cost the environment in ways that could not be measured. Those things that are detrimental to the safety, health and environment should be removed.

The simpler ways of conserving nature and the environment are methods such as reducing carbon dioxide fumes in the atmosphere by eliminating the unnecessary consumption of energy, getting your car fixed so there are no fumes, and saving paper. The ozone is destroyed and UV rays affect the earth because of such greenhouse gases. If we all do not join to the battle to preserve nature, all may suddenly be lost.

There should be larger contributions towards the rehabilitation of the environment as well as towards controlling damage to forested areas. Policies of the government should be strictly enforced. Violation of the forest confines and its inhabitants should be stopped. If the law is active enough to make people feel accountable and aware that they will be punished if they break it, they will then back off from illegitimate practices.

Future Steps

Decisions about future steps to be taken regarding the problem of deforestation are in the hands of mankind. It is evident that things are in a critical condition. If the recent rebuilding and remodeling efforts are successful the picture could be brighter.

The government should reinforce controls and end unlawful programmers. Reserves should be established to curtail illegal practices. If such actions are implemented there could still be a positive predictable future for the planet.

It is imperative that more people should be invited to join the lobbying against deforestation. The mobilization of the world population together with government support is the solution to ending these unlawful practices.
