Control Your Thoughts and Change Your Life

What is Going on in Your Mind?

A simple three-step system changed my life. These steps, if employed consistently, can quash depression, eliminate debt, help you achieve any goal you desire, and improve every circumstance in your life. These steps are simple. They take effort. They deliver results.

Do you really know what is going on in your mind right now? Are you repeating the words of the latest hit single you heard on the radio this morning? Are you visualizing your favorite scene from the movie you saw last night? Are you worrying about a loved one? Are you reviewing your plans for the day? Are you secretly complaining about working conditions, the government, or the state of the economy? There is a high probability that you didn't even know what was going on in your mind until I started asking you these questions. There is also a good chance that the language in your mind was negative. Negative self-talk seems to be a much more frequent event in the human mind than positive self-talk. Indeed, positive thinking and visualization require much more effort than simply putting our mind in neutral and streaming through it whatever media we choose to latch onto.

The following three steps will enable you to take control of your mind and produce the circumstances that you desire.

Step 1: Figure out what is going on in your head right now

You must slow down for a few minutes. Put the check list of things to do on hold. Turn off the radio and television. Sit down in a quiet place. Listen to the thoughts you are having. You may be surprised at what is habitually happening in your mind. Initially, this has to be a conscious process for most people. Over time and with practice, you will more readily recognize your thoughts with less effort.

Step 2: Determine what these thoughts are doing for you

Are they leading you to accomplish your goals? Are they helping you believe in yourself? Are they giving you energy and a desire to live each day to its fullest? There is a lot to be excited about in your life. There are also probably some circumstances that are challenging for you. Make a conscious determination as to what your thoughts are manifesting in your life.

Step 3: Adjust the thoughts that aren't contributing to your happiness

If a thought casts doubt upon your abilities to accomplish your goals, replace it with a thought that motivates faith. You can memorize quotes that inspire you, sing songs that uplift you, or visualize a past event where you overcame an obstacle to achieve success. This step does more than just eliminate doubtful thoughts; it invigorates your mind with confidence.

These steps can be used today, this very moment. Try it. Commit to following these steps for one entire week. It may be more difficult than it sounds, but it will work. Stress and depression will decrease. Confidence and energy will increase. You can choose what thoughts you think. And you can change your life.
