Controversial Movies Available on Netflix

Banned, Unpleasant, and Politically Incorrect

Rachelle Lynn Williams
Oh how things have changed....check out this list of films from the not so distant past that caused a stir upon their release. All of these films have been previously banned in countries around the world and some of them still are. These movies are currently available to be put into your Netflix queue for you to enjoy whenever you're in the mood for completely mindless entertainment. It really is interesting to note how much some things have changed and how much some other things have stayed the same. Judge for yourself:

I Spit on Your Grave (1978)

This film depicts the story of the brutal gang rape of an isolated woman. Were this movie released today would it cause as much of a stir as it did when it was released? You decide.
Starring: Camille Keaton
Directed by: Meir Zarchi

The Last House on the Left (1972)

This movie is also a depiction of violent rape but it seemed to garner more controversy than the first movie. Could it be that this film caused more of a stir because the ultimate act of violence (at least from a male perspective) was perpetrated upon a man rather than a woman? Check it out.
Starring: David Hess
Directed by: Wes Craven

The Boogeyman (1980)

This is a film that some believed was inspired by John Carpenter's Halloween. In this film we are allowed to witness the creation of a monster and follow through to the stories of his victims. Again, violence was the reason for the controversy surrounding this film.
P.S. : DO NOT confuse this movie with that forgettable 2005 release with the same title.
Starring: Suzanna Love
Directed by: Bruce Starr

Faces of Death (1978)

This film is the first in an entire series but none was more shockingly received than this first one because people didn't really know how to process it. It is a documentary style film showing incidents caught on tape of human beings actually meeting their deaths. These days we have "shock"umentary type half hour TV shows like "The World's Scariest Police Standoffs." Those TV shows do have a tendency to get excessively violent but they are not disturbing because everybody usually lives to fight the good fight another day. There is something very unsettling about watching a human being discorporate.
Directed by: John Alan Schwartz

Fight for your Life (1977)

This movie tells the story of a God fearing African American family and their encounter with a group of escaped white convicts who just happen to be the most racist people on the entire planet. We get to watch as this family is brutalized, raped, and humiliated all whilst enduring a barrage of the most insulting racial slurs ever even thought of. "Martin Luther Coon," I mean come on....this movie is really bad but I do believe that there are people out there who are just as racist as the guys in the film and its worth something to be made jarringly aware that they do still exist. Do you think this film could ever be made today?
Starring: Reggie Rock Bythewood
Directed by: Robert A. Endelson

Interesting list. I was thinking of controversial films as being along the line of "Last Tango in Paris," "Begotten," or "Salo." But, I'm sure these will do. I don't know if my two offerings are available on Netflix or not.
