Controversy Causes Rosie O'Donnell to Leave the View Early.
Today ABC said that Rosie O'Donnell has been granted her request to leave her contract three weeks earlier than expected. President of Disney ABC's Daytime Television Brain Frons, stated, "We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to 'The View' and wish her well." Barbara Walters The View's creator also stated, "Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at The View. I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
Wednesday Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O' Donnell engaged in an almost ten minute long verbal exchange that has been the discussion of entertainment shows ever since. This was a very heated and emotional with both hosts near tears by the end of the discussion. The exchange Wednesday had been building for quite a while.
This announcement came on the same day that Rosie O' Donnell's writer Janette Barber, was accused of destroying pictures of Elisabeth Hasselbeck by drawing mustaches on her portraits. ABC has confirmed that Hasselbeck's pictures were defaced and the situation was being investigated. Rosie stated about her departure " It's been an amazing year, and I love all three women."
