Opened in October, 2010, at 1409 Morse Avenue, CoOffice Connect provides a shared workspace for independent workers to do what they do best: work. For a monthly fee, members can drop by during business hours to use workstations, printers, wireless internet access, technical support, meeting rooms, and coffee station.
Most importantly, CoOffice Connect provides the social element of work that many freelancers miss out on in their home offices, like impromptu chats with coworkers, networking opportunities, and holiday parties. Members gain all the advantages of working in a more traditional office environment without the hassle.
As more people turn to freelancing as a means of primary income, places like CoOffice Connect are on the forefront of a much larger movement to create community and solidarity between independent workers. Called "coworking," these voluntary networks are becoming a vital means of support for an increasingly isolated workforce.
This month, each Friday is free for anyone to drop by, do some work, and get a feel for the space.
