Cookie Christmas Gift Ideas

Barbara Ciric
I really like Christmas Cookies. I like making them, decorating them, giving them away and eating them. I participate in several cookie exchanges each year, but I realize not everyone has the time or inclination to make several hundred cookies in the busy month of December. If your lifestyle is too busy to make homemade cookies, there are many places to buy cookies that taste as good as if you made them yourself. If you like Italian style cookies the Cookie Outlet has a yummy platter. The cookies are made by the supplier to some of the best bakeries in New York. They have chocolate coated cookies, iced and nutty cookies. They offer trays and boxes of Christmas and Hanukkah cookies. Check out their Italian platter. It has three pounds of delicious multi-colored cookies. It is just $29.99 for a three pound tray, which has about 40 cookies.

If you prefer cookies that look like home-baked, try the scrumptious cookies from the Famous Fourth Street Cookie Bakery in Philadelphia. They specialize in chocolate chip cookies that look and taste as if the came right from your own oven. The Fourth Street Cookie Bakers has been called 'awesome" by Philadelphia magazine. They have a storefront in the Reading Terminal Market, a place native Philadelphians go to when they want great food. Here is the link to their website, but you can also call to order. Their phone number is 888-625-9870.

For a cookie gift that is a little more unusual try Bohemian Coconut Macaroons from Clara's Gourmet Cookies. They are wonderful with a cup of hot tea in the afternoon. They are a little pricey at $18.95 a pound but Klara's offers free shipping. While browsing Klara's site, be sure to check out the Honey Glazed Hazelnut Kolache. It is scrumptious!

Of course, you shouldn't overlook the traditional mail order cookie sources. Harry & David has a wide selection of great cookies gifts. They have a great tin of decorated Hanukah cookies, just $24.95 for a 4 ounce tin.

If you need a cookie gift right now, be sure to check out your local grocery store. Most larger stores have bakeries inside the store and offer cookie trays and boxes of cookies. They are just as tasty as if they were made in a stand alone bakery. Here in the Northeast, we have a convenience store that has packages of wonderful cookies, dressed up with holiday bows. A small package of six bakery-style cookies is just $1.99. Larger packages are $9.99. Add a couple cups of coffee and you are all set to drop in at a friend's house for a Christmas visit.

As you can see there is no reason for non-bakers to think they cannot give delicious cookie gifts at Christmas and Hanukkah.
