Yesterday, the Google logo had Big Bird's giant legs stand in for the L. Today, Cookie Monster is put on the Google front page, as his two giant eyes stand in for the two 0's, and the rest of the logo has been turned into a cookie. The Cookie Monster is chowing down on that logo, although perhaps not as quickly as he would have a few years ago.
The sight of Cookie Monster on Google reminded many of the "Veggie Monster" rumors a few years back, when the Sesame Street legend actually started to promote healthy eating. Since Cookie Monster's style of eating wasn't politically correct anymore, he had to dial down his love of cookies and start promoting fruits and vegetables. He wasn't quite Veggie Monster, but the change was enough to spark a few jokes - even though the goal was to combat childhood obesity.
Cookie Monster defended his new veggie campaign to the likes of Matt Lauer and Stephen Colbert, and got to keep his original name. But the old Cookie Monster-Veggie Monster story got resurrected on the Internet, with the character now front and center on Google for the day.
Otherwise, Cookie's chowing down of the Google logo signals a continued trend for the days ahead. It appears Sesame Street will take over the Google front page for a few days longer, and that Big Bird's appearance yesterday was just the beginning. Sesame Street has its 40'th anniversary episode airing on Tuesday, so more characters should be worked onto the Google front page for the next five days.
Big Bird and Cookie Monster/Veggie Monster have already made the cut, and there are still many Sesame Street denizens left to choose from. Elmo, Grover and Oscar the Grouch will probably be up there, though Bert and Ernie might be cramped together on the Google logo. The Count, Snuffleupagus, Mumford and even Kermit could contend for the remaining days.
But for now, it is Cookie Monster, not Veggie Monster, who is greeting Google visitors - and getting cookie crumbs all over them - with his own special day today.

Went out and got the mistake fixed, so I'm off to go get counting lessons from the Count.
True, there is only one "L" in Google. My point that I wanted to get across is it's the PARNETS that by crap for the kids to make them obese. TV shows, don't have the influence of eating cookies or not. Every kid loves cookies that's the way it goes, the parents are the only ones who can make a change in childhood obesity.
Who writes this crap?
"Yesterday, the Google logo had Big Bird's giant legs stand in for the two L's." - time to go watch a few more sesame street episodes, maybe the one sponsored by the letter L. Google has only one L.
