Easy Ways to Make Cookies for Santa

Maggie Ray
As Christmas Eve rolls around, little ones everywhere are thinking about leaving cookies for Santa. The jolly ole guy gets so many snacks along the way, it is important for your child to think that his or her cookies for Santa are the most special one. Here are a few easy homemade cookies you can help your child make for Santa.

Sugar Cookies for Santa

Sugar cookies are a great choice to have your child help you bake. When making cookies for Santa you should consider which ones are easy enough to have the child actively involved in the baking.

Easy Sugar Cookie Recipe

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar then add egg and vanilla. Blend the flour mix from the small bowl into the large bowl. Have your child help roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. If you want, you can roll these in colored sugar before baking. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Leave on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before moving to a cooling rack.

No Bake Cookies for Santa

If you don't have an oven, or if you are not into baking cookies, consider letting your child help make no bake cookies for Santa. There are many types of no bake cookies with hundreds of recipes found on the internet. A favorite one for the holidays is the Cornflake Holiday wreath cookie. If your child is a little older they may be able to shape the wreaths to use on their platter of cookies for Santa.

Cornflake Wreath Cookies for Santa

1/2 cup butter

3 cups miniature marshmallows

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp green food color

4 cups corn flakes

Sprinkles, decorative icing, colored sugar

Melt butter over medium heat and then add marshmallows stirring until all melted.

Add vanilla and food coloring; stir until the green color is spread throughout the mix.

When mixture is smooth, add corn flakes; mix well but try not to crush the cornflakes.

Form into wreath shapes on sheets of waxed paper, decorate sprinkles and other decorations.

Store Bought Cookies for Santa

Sometimes it is just not possible to bake cookies for Santa. That doesn't have to mean your child will be disappointed in the cookies they leave for Santa. Instead, either let them choose a couple of special ones from the bakery, or buy a pack of something special like Oreos and plan to decorate them. You can make these store bought cookies special by dipping them in chocolate, or placing a layer of frosting on them and decorating them with cake gels. Your child will enjoy decorating these cookies for Santa.

Making cookies for Santa helps to pass those excited moments waiting for the big time of arrival. Have fun making them with your child.
