Cooking with Kids: Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes

Danielle
Chocolate chip cookie recipes are one of the most fun things to cook with your children. Measuring, mixing, pouring, and scooping not only tantalize all the senses of your young one, these common cooking actions are excellent learning opportunities for math and science!

Licking the batter of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes from the bottom of the mixing bowl was always the thing I liked best about helping my mom bake cookies. Today, that's not an option unless you use a cookie recipe without raw eggs. My kids like to make frozen chocolate chip cookie balls.

It is nearly impossible to find chocolate chip cookie recipes without eggs, but this dough is made just for eating raw and is egg free. Not ice cream, but not a cookie, this frozen treat is fun to make, even more fun to eat, and doesn't require the use of an oven. Definitely the perfect cookie recipe for kids!

This recipe will make about 4 dozen chocolate chip cookie dough balls, ideal for parties or school functions.

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of softened butter and 3 firmly packed cups of brown sugar. Slowly blend in 2 tablespoons of water and a tablespoon of vanilla before folding in dry ingredients.

Stir in 4 cups of flour and 1 ½ cups of mini chocolate chips and mix well. Make small balls out of the dough and freeze on a large baking sheet until firm, about 2 to 3 hours.

There are a few variations you can try to make this your own chocolate chip cookie recipe. Substitute peanut butter chips, caramel chips, or your own combination of chips. Add 1 ½ cups of chopped nuts, walnuts, pecans, etc., to the batter. Add a couple teaspoons of honey to the batter. Get the kids involved and make your own unique creation!
