Cooking for One? Here's the Perfect Single Serving Frying Pan
Small Portion Sized Meals Are Easier when You Use Smaller Cookware
Cooking more then you can eat in one sitting often means waste as food storage is also an issue to be dealt with. If your using a cooler you need ice. It just makes sense to cook just enough to satisfy your immediate need.
We all know Cast Iron makes excellent cook ware. Heat is evenly dispersed throughout the cooking surface of a cast iron frying pan much better then some cheap aluminum pan.
Last week at a thrift store I came across the perfect solution to cooking small portions. A small (about 4"x4") square griddle that holds just enough for one person. At the time the thought of "Just big enough for one egg" was the thought that went through my mind. A quick McMuffin style egg sandwich for breakfast is actually healthier then many other choices. With this pan you can toast your muffin, then fry up the egg, and lay on a slice of cheese. A good nourishing high protein breakfast in minutes. A quick wipe out of the small pan with a paper towel and your little cast iron frying pan is ready to be put away.
This thrift store find originally came from a Cracker Barrel restaurant. From their gift shop, where you can pick up many different items. Though it isn't currently listed on their Online Gift Shop It may still be available in their stores. Cracker Barrel being a large nation wide chain, you probably won't have to drive far to find a location near you.
Once I started using the little jewel of a fry pan I realized there were many other uses for such a high quality but small cooking device.
Grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. The Cast Iron makes it a snap to create a perfect toasted brown sandwich in a matter of a couple minutes. Unlike an aluminum pan the cheese sandwich didn't stick to the pan or burn unevenly. With the even heat characteristics of Cast Iron it will be a perfect sandwich every time.
French toast, golden and crisp, or maybe a one egg omelet. Cooking in small quantities is perfect for the Van Dweller. If you get the chance to pickup one of these little Cast Iron Skillets I highly recommend them. I will be enjoying many good yet small meals on the road with mine.
