There are probably a thousand and one ways to cook a freshly caught fish. Almost every fisherman and every cook has his or her own ideas on how to do it the best way. If you are a beginner, here are some tips on how to get the most out of your fresh fish.

Breading and Frying

When breading and frying fish, make sure that the fish is well coated in batter. To get the most out of your batter, season it with your heart's content. Salt and pepper will never go wrong. If you want to try a new taste and a more delicious fish, try using other herbs and spices with the batter. This will bring out the taste in the fish even more.

Easy Grilling

Most people have the misconception that grilling is easy. A beginner might assume that grilling fish is just the same as grilling those steaks and burgers. They are oblivious to the fact that fish, unlike cattle or fowl, tends to secrete most of its own juices when cooked. The delicious juice will then drip into the coal.

To prevent losing the moisture, you must first coat the fish with oil, because the oil will seal most of the moisture inside. Second, always keep an eye on the fillets and turn them as soon as a cut would reveal that the fresh fish is cooked halfway through. You must remove the fish as soon as it is cooked through.

An alternative to basting the fish with oil is to wrap it in aluminum foil. This will keep the moisture and marinate the fish in its own moisture. You can choose to place herbs and spices inside the foil, as this enhances the taste of the fish.

Baking

If you are too busy to watch the fish while cooking, baking is the best option for you. It is quite easy, because you can prepare the marinade and pre-heat the oven, then pop the fish into the oven for a predetermined amount of time. You still have to watch the fish from time to time, although not as regularly as with grilling, to prevent it from overcooking.

A good recipe and these tips in cooking will make sure that you get the most out of your fresh fish. With a few ideas of your own, you will soon be cooking with a fewer mistakes, and better recipes. Always remember to take the time to prepare for cooking, and don't overcook your fish!
