Cooking Tips for the Holidays

Matt
Everyone loves to cook around the holidays, usually it's cookies or a good home cooked meal. Not everyone knows the perfect thing to make. Some people just run out of ideas or would like a few tips on holiday cooking favorites.

The first place to find holiday inspirations is online. Magazines like Taste of Home and Better Homes and Gardens actually send weekly newsletters with a few recipes and holiday decorating ideas. Better Homes and Gardens has 100 days of Holidays newsletter with a new recipe idea every day and links to things like holiday cookie guides and dinners.

If you don't have the Internet or don't like to browse you can always just go to your local store and pick up a copy of a cooking magazine. During the holiday season many cooking magazines have holiday editions that are full of new and interesting ideas. Some magazines rely solely on their readers to submit their favorite recipes. It's a good way to achieve that comforting home cooked taste as opposed to some of the other gourmet magazines.

Ask friends for their favorite holiday cooking tips and recipes. Throw a dinner party for your friends and ask that each one bring a copy of their favorite Christmas recipe to exchange with the other guests. In return you could provide them with one of your. This is a good way to collect tasty recipes while having fun and enjoying yourself.

The biggest cooking tip one could ever receive is, don't get in over your head. If you are making holiday dinners for a large crowd, make some things that can be made ahead and stored in Crock Pots or the fridge. Try not to be doing too much as your guests arrive so you are able to talk to them instead of running around your house frustrated. If you need a little help, just ask. There is probably some home cook waiting in the wings just ready to help if you ask.

Decorating your workspace for the holidays is a motivational boost as well. Don't forget to decorate your kitchen - it's a room too! Turn on some festive holiday music while you cook. Singing to it could relieve some of the stress of cooking. Getting in the holiday mood always seems to make things a bit more bright and cheery.

The number one cooking tip is to have fun without being stressed. Try to ask for help if you need it. Get new ideas beforehand and try to cook things that you can prepare ahead of time to make it easier on yourself. Good luck and Happy Holidays!
