Fashionistas know more than the current trends - they know how to wear clothing so it always flatters their appearance. But because fashion is so personal, it's sometimes hard to know what to buy the fashion-forward person as a gift.
Fortunately, there are a lot of gift options for fashionistas that don't require you to guess their clothing size. Just try one of these great choices:
A magazine subscription: One of the ways fashionistas stay on top of current trends is by reading all the fashion magazines, like Allure, Vogue and Elle. A gift subscription to one of these magazines costs about $20-$30. For presentation, just buy the current issue from the newsstand and wrap it up with a note that informs the recipient about the gift subscription.
A handbag or wallet: The great thing about accessories is that they're one-size-fits-all. Buy a classic handbag or wallet - every fashionista knows that some classic designs never go out of style. Stick with a basic color like black or brown, which can be used for seasons to come. A designer bag will cost about $300, but you can find a good quality basic handbag for as little as $30 at department stores.
Wine glasses: It may not seem to fit with the fashionista look, but most fashion-forward people like to adorn their homes as much as they like to adorn their bodies! Choose an elegant set of wineglasses to impress the fashionista without resorting to wardrobe gifts. Look for them at your local department store, or check specialty stores that sell fine crystal. A set of four wineglasses can cost between $20 and $200 - or more.
A book: There are so many books out there about fashion - and every fashionista loves to read about her favorite hobby! You can buy one that focuses on style, or look for one about cosmetics or beauty. Whichever you choose, it's guaranteed to be a hit, since fashionistas always want to look even more fabulous. Check the personal or style section of your local bookstore.
Makeup sampler: Choosing makeup for someone can be difficult, but you can't go wrong with a sampler kit. Some kits contain a huge variety of colors and shades, and include everything from mascara to lipstick to eyeshadow. By choosing a set that offers a large selection of items, the fashionista on your list is likely to find a few colors she will enjoy. You can find these at almost every major department store.
Manicure set: Fashionistas love to be beautiful, and that includes their fingernails, too! Create a manicure/pedicure yourself by filling a box or stocking with assorted nail polishes, a pair of nail clippers, some emery boards or a nail file, a pair of toe separators, some nail polish remover pads and cuticle oil. Add some scented hand lotion to complete the package.
Sewing kit: Fashionistas want everyone to believe their style is effortless, but even the most put-together clotheshorses end up with loose buttons, stuck zippers or frayed hems. A small sewing kit with multiple colors of thread can help any fashionista through a fashion emergency. Create one yourself with supplies from a sewing store. Be sure to include a variety of threads, some needles, a small pair of scissors and assorted buttons.
Socks: These one-size-fits-most accessories are a great way to have fun. Turn them into a gag gift by choosing the most garish pair you can find. Or, for a serious gift, look for basic black, white, brown and gray trouser socks. Almost every fashionista has a need for these at some time or another, and you don't have to worry if they're going to fit. Department stores are a great place to find trouser socks. Dollar stores or discount stores are your best bet if you're looking for a gag gift.
Jewelry: If you really want to buy the fashionista something trendy and current, jewelry is the safest way to go. It's relatively inexpensive - costume jewelry pieces can be as little as $6 - and it's easy to figure out what's trendy for the moment. If you're totally clueless about fashion, ask a salesclerk at a department or specialty store. They'll know exactly what's stylish for the moment.
A scrapbook: What more could a fashionista want than a place to store memories of her best outfits? An inexpensive scrapbook can be found in any craft supply store. Include acid-free pens so she can handwrite comments next to photos of her glamorous evening dress outfit or her night at the opera.
Whether your fashionista is young or old, she's sure to be pleased when you present her with a gift that appeals to her sense of style!
