Cool Ohio Day Trip Ideas

Amusement Park Alternatives

Merz
If you live in or around Ohio, you are bound to know about Cedar Point and King's Island, two popular, nationally-recognized, or in the case of Cedar Point maybe even globally recognized, amusement parks. While both of these parks are highly enjoyable ways to spend a summer day outdoors, amusement parks can be over crowded and challenging to navigate during those peak summer months. So, if you are looking for a more serene day trip for your family this summer, try these places instead.

Roscoe Village.

Located in Coshocton, and nestled alongside the Ohio-Erie Canal, Roscoe Village was once a bustling port town for docking boats. Now, it is a well preserved step back into the town's glory days. Step out of modern times and walk down a street out of the 1800s, complete with buildings and craftsmanship of the times.

Roscoe Village holds numerous festivals and events throughout the summer and fall, including the popular "Apple Butter Stirrin" festival, where you can get free entertainment on a street stage and hot apple cider, along with some of the most delightful apple butter you'll ever taste.

Tecumseh!

This 35-year-old outdoor play depicting the life story of the famous Shawnee leader has been heralded as the best of its kind by the outdoor drama industry. One visit to this popular event in Chillicothe, Ohio, and you will understand why.

Being in the audience at Tecumseh! is an experience like no other. The Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre feels like a world apart, and the action of the production does not just take place before you. It surrounds you in an all out sensory experience that will leave you talking about it for days afterwards. You are literally transported to another time, a time in which Native Americans roamed the lands and were free to become heroes.

The Wilds

The Wilds is located on nearly ten thousand acres of land in Cumberland, Ohio. It is noted as being one of the largest wildlife conservation centers in the world. More than twenty-five species from Africa, Asia and North America roam the fields and meadows of The Wilds, along with hundreds of native species.

During the months of May through October, The Wilds offers guided tours to the public. On the Open-Air Safari, you will ride through the Wilds on in an open-air vehicle, giving you a similar experience to what you would get on an African safari.

Group rates make The Wilds a great choice for a large party gathering, and there is even a lodge on premise if you want to turn this fun day trip into an exciting long weekend.

These are just some of the many places in Ohio that are great places for fun day trips, where you are going solo or with a large group.
