Cool Summer Jobs: Teach Abroad
There are plenty of teaching positions available in foreign countries, particularly if you know a foreign language. Venture onto any one of the numerous job boards on the Internet and you'll find advertisements for teachers needed in just about every country of the world. This is a great opportunity for someone who has always wanted to travel but never had an excuse.
The only thing you really need to remember about this cool summer job is that teaching abroad can lead to various forms of culture shock. You'll have to get used to a new language (even if you are already fluent) as well as different types of food, different hours, different customs and all kinds of things that you aren't used to. The good news is that most people settle in after a week or two, which gives you the rest of the summer to have a blast.
Cool Summer Jobs: Work with At-Risk Youth
If you've always wanted an opportunity to inspire the younger generation, this low-wage, high-reward job might be for you. There are plenty of opportunities all over the world to work with at-risk youth, particularly those who have been in trouble and who come from broken homes. For example, there's an opportunity here in Houston for professionals who spend two full months in a maximum-care facility with at-risk youth. The purpose is to show them the meaning of success and how to attain it.
Cool Summer Jobs: Go on a Dig
Many programs are now allowing American professionals to travel to various corners of the world to participate in archaeological digs. This doesn't mean that you get to use the little brush, but your skills can be put to work. Accountants, paralegals, bookkeepers, administrative assistants, typists, salesmen and other types of professions are in-demand. You can find out more about this particular job at JobsAbroad.com.
Cool Summer Jobs: Head to the Caribbean
Jobs for administrative personnel abound in the Caribbean, particularly for accountants. You'll have all of the sand and water you could ever want as well as short hours, great benefits and competitive salary. From Aruba to Bermuda, you can work in an office that overlooks the ocean and spend your evenings walking the beach or heading to one of the many clubs and bars.
Cool Summer Jobs: Mix Some Drinks
Did you work as a bartender when you were in college? If so, this is a great summer job. Work as a bartender anywhere in the country (or the world, if you've got your traveling shoes on). You'll enjoy working nights while you have the days to yourself and your tips can really pad your wallet. And if you'd like to really travel, you might consider pursuing a bartending job on a cruise line!
