Cooper STT: Great Tires for Jeeps

I purchased my first set of Cooper STT tires for my 2002 Jeep Wrangler right after I purchased my new Jeep in 2003. I have been very pleased with these tires and have found that they make great tires for Jeeps and other 4 wheel drive vehicles. This review of the Cooper STT tire will look at off road ability, highway performance, tread wear, and looks.

Cooper STT Off Road Ability
If you are looking at purchasing the Cooper STT for your off road vehicle the first thing you want to know about is it's ability on the trail and in the mud. I have found that the Cooper STT performs exceptionally well in the mud. The extra wide grooves in the tread clean out really well, and the added side grooves prove to give just enough side grip to get you out of the stickiest situations. The Cooper STT proves to be very sturdy in the rocks as well and I have never had one puncture even in the toughest of terrains.

Cooper STT Highway Performance
If the Cooper STT has any shortfall it is in the amount of noise the thick grooves and tire tread give when traveling down the highway. I found the road noise to be slightly more than previous sets of BFG Mud Terrains. Handling on the road is about what you would expect from a Mud Terrain tire. The tire showed no signs of rolling over, nor did the lengthened stopping distance scare me any more than any other mud tire. I found braking and turning to be a bit of a problem when compared to a street tire but nothing to complain to loudly about. Riding on wet roads has never been a problem and the Cooper STT has shown great traction in the wet and in the dry. The Cooper STT mud tire certainly doesn't improve the ride of a Jeep Wrangler, but most Jeep owners don't care about ride quality. One good thing about the highway performance of the Cooper STT was that my highway miles per gallon didn't suffer a significant drop off even over the normal street tire.

Cooper STT Tread Wear
The Cooper STT tire has held up very well for the past 25,000 miles. I still have at least 15k miles left on my 31x10.50x15s before I have to consider purchasing new tires. My personal opinion is that 40,000 miles on a very soft mud tire is extraordinary and I have been well pleased. For the most part the wear has been even across the tread and the tire shows no signs of chunking, or flattening.

Cooper STT Looks
One of the things I really liked about the Cooper STT was the aggressive look of the tire. Many of my friends have commented about the cool looks and have made mention that the tire really adds to the stance of the Jeep.

Overall I have been very pleased with the Cooper STT mud tire and have found it to be an excellent choice for great jeep tires. Prices for my Cooper STT were about $180 dollars per tire and I had the mounting and lifetime balancing thrown in for free.
