First of all, I would advise not to be embarrassed about it. If you want something different than what your hair stylist suggests, it does not mean that you have no taste or are hopelessly out of touch with today's style and fashion. Do not be afraid to speak up. It's your hair. You know the way you want it done. And if it is not the latest fashion trend, so? Who says you have to be like somebody else? I, for example, can't stand the current craze about straightening hair. My hair is naturally straight, but I want it wavy or curly. No one wants curly hair today? So?? Who cares?! I do! And my hair stylist knows it. Showing some individuality never hurts.
One thing you can to do make sure you get the hairstyle you want is to ask for a catalog, look through the photos, and pick the closest match you can find. Show the picture to the stylist and tell them that this is what you want. If this is a new hairdo for you, I would suggest asking the stylist's opinion on whether it will be good for your hair texture. Sometimes our hair just will not repeat what we see on someone else, even if cut and styled in a similar way.
If you have a photo of yourself with a nice hair style that you would like to have again, you can bring it with and show the stylist. "I want this." Plain and simple. A picture is worth a thousand words, as we all know, so it will make things easier both for you and the stylist.
Most hair stylists will make sure they know exactly what you want before they start working on you. Some will try to make some input, others will just do what you tell them. In any case, the stylist's job is to give you what you want. If you have a stylist who makes a lot of suggestions that are different from your taste, perhaps you need to find a different one.
