Cop Out Movie Review (2010)

Wisdom Supreme
There has been a long history of buddy cop films over the years in Hollywood (Ex: Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, Rush Hour, etc.) and "Cop Out" tries to pay homage to that grand tradition. Officer's Jimmy Monroe and Paul Hodges played by Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are partners of 9 years, who are trying to find & stop notorious criminal before he makes his next big hit.

Monroe (Willis) is a lot more laid back here than his infamous cop character from Die Hard (John McClaine) most fans love him for, which is probably a good thing in contrast to Hodge's (Murray) high energy
performance.

The laughs and comedic hits throughout aren't anything new or side splitting, but it's a steady dose of humorous amusement. The major villain that Willis & Morgan are after is Poyh Boy played by Guillermo Diaz (who some comedy fans may recognize from movies like "Half-Baked" & TV's The Chappelle Show). Although his performance was more slapstick than sinister for a criminal, it was entertaining.

Another noteworthy cameo was from actor Sean William Scott best known as Stifler from American Pie fame), who plays a petty thief that gets busted by Willis & Morgan. The scenes with him & Morgan are probably amongst the funniest in the film.

Although "Cop Out" is not necessarily his best work, director Kevin Smith makes a solid enough film to atleast hold your interest. So on a scale of 1-5 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, I give "Cop Out" 2 ½ stars. Till next time be safe and stay blessed.
