A person suffering from depression and anxiety should be under a physician's supervision. Along with following the physician's orders, these activities can be used at home to improve symptoms.
· Practice relaxation and meditation techniques, such as yoga, massage, and soothing baths to relieve stress. Stress plays havoc with the body and mind. A person under tremendous stress will have problems sleeping, concentrating, and they are at greater risk of getting sick because the immune system is compromised. Relieving stress will increase productivity in the work place, harmony in the family, and overall well-being.
· Exercise the body to energize the mind. Exercise releases endorphins into the blood stream. Endorphins are neurotransmitters that have pain relieving and energy boosting properties. Depression patients should follow a set exercise routine to help alleviate symptoms.
· Eat a healthy diet. Reducing or eliminating caffeine and other stimulants from the diet will help with anxiety symptoms. Foods such as chocolate, soft drinks, alcohol and coffee should be severely restricted in the diet of someone suffering from anxiety.
· Engage in activities that offer enjoyment. Anyone suffering from depression or anxiety will feel better after doing something enjoyable. Set aside time every day to do something you really love. It will brighten that day, and give you something to look forward to for the next.
· A person suffering from depression should only interact with positive people. Depression feeds off negativity. Cut off the supply of negative emotions and depression symptoms will lift.
· Be organized. Organization will reduce stress and anxiety. Having everything planned leaves no room for worry. Make a plan and stick to it to relieve depression and control anxiety.
· Practice positive self-talk. Being kind to yourself and boosting self-esteem will help tremendously with depression symptoms. You have to be your biggest fan and know that you are worth the effort. Loving yourself is a big step in recovering from depression.
People suffering from these conditions must put themselves first and do whatever is necessary to get better. The above suggestions will improve depression and anxiety symptoms if followed. Take the time to help yourself. Do what is needed to overcome depression and anxiety. Life has so many opportunities waiting for you. Grab them!
