Coping with Stress

How often do you find yourself fretting over meeting deadlines or performing well in your exams or inability to cope with your surroundings or the like? Stress is a common phenomenon experienced by many individuals in varying forms who feel they lack the control to overcome different situations in their lives. People may experience stress due to time, social, psychological and other pressures. People who are highly sensitive to stress may find it difficult to maintain focus and often feel tensed, tired and distracted. Constant or excessive stress has proved to be harmful as it adversely affects one's mental and physical order. Moreover it leads to loss of confidence which is reflected in one's personality.

It is very important to understand that stress is not something that is there; rather it is a result of how one chooses to deal with different situations he/she comes across. It results from the belief that you are incapable of handling and controlling things in your life.

Normally when one is stressed out, he/she tends to get irritated or bad tempered quickly. This results in spoiling relationships with your co-workers or family members which obviously nobody wants. Also people inclined to get in a habit of thinking only the negative, underestimating oneself, constantly worrying over insignificant matters, losing sleep or even using drugs or alcohol.

No matter how big a problem is it can be dealt with easily if one believes and makes the effort to do so. Similarly, stress can be dealt with and also be minimized in various helpful ways. First of all it is very important to believe that you can overcome stress because running from it would only make it worse. Secondly you should identify what is causing it. Once the source is identified, try to think about it logically as this will help you shape an appropriate attitude towards coping with it. However, if you continue getting stressed out you can practice a number of a stress reducing techniques. Stress can be controlled by taking deep breaths, ensuring that you get a proper night's sleep, maintaining a positive outlook or even relaxing or diverting your mind temporarily from the source that's causing it by engaging in some activity that pleases you. Relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga have also proved to be effective for mitigating stress. If these are not enough you can also take an expert's opinion on how to manage it plus there are a number of websites that provide a detailed insight on stress management.
