Coporal Punishment

Alabama Needs to Enter the 21st Century

Mr. Chip's
Kyra on CNN really got my attention this morning when she was commenting on a story out of Birmingham,AL where about 18 young ladies (high school seniors) were paddled for prom decollete infractions.
This must be some kind of joke??? But then I look at Alabama ...still slower than the rest of the nation, still somewhat racist, still old Dixie mentality and you add your own adjectives and subjectivity. So I was not surprised that this state still engaged in what can viewed as flogging or being whipped. Now I was doing some research and I found that only twenty other US states are using corporal punishment. And 30 states including the district of Columbia are not. So to the other states and especially to Alabama...is it helping??? If it was working why did 30 other US states ban the practice. Even states near Alabama. Do you still need to paddle high school seniors to for discipline? And even giving the choice between expulsion and to be paddled? Sounds really idiotic!!! If you are trying to prove to me and other states outside of yours that you are a changed state as in distancing yourself from old cotton land Dixie you have a weird way of showing it. All your spectacle that made worldwide news showed is how backward your state still is. This is the 21st century. I am sure not all citizens in Alabama agree with corporal punishment. It was something that did work like back in the late seventies or early eighties in middle school and Junior high and below. But it was very flawed and a slippery slope. Now you are being laughed at because your state made headline news in a bad way. I don't think I need to go back and give you a synopsis of your past history and it looks like your progress into the future is going to be a long time coming if news story continue like this recent paddling. Now you must have some smart legal eagles and some lawmakers in your state. It's time to do some re-evaluating on your policy of corporal punishment. Not just for today but for your future. Don't worry I don't plan to ever visit racist Alabama today, tomorrow or anytime in the present or near future and I hope others will join me in my crusade until you change your policy on corporal punishment.
