Copper-T IUD: The Best Birth Control

Copper-T IUD is a More Advanced IUD that Uses No Hormones that Interfere with Your Body

I had a horrible time figuring out what kind of birth control was right for me. Birth control pills gave me mood swings and made me sick because of the hormones. Low dose birth control pills didn't protect me as well (I got pregnant while taking low dose pills) and the birth control shot caused me to have long irregular bleeding.

After my last child I spoke with my gynecologist who recommended the Copper-T IUD. The Copper-T IUD is good for 10 long years! It uses no hormones so I didn't have to worry about what it could do to my body and it has over 99% protection from pregnancy. Ofcourse it doesn't protect against Sexually Transmitted Diseases something I don't have to worry about being married.

The doctor had to insert it for me and it was quick and easy. It took about as long as a pap exam and the IUD is very small and comfortable. My gynecologist told me that there may be some cramping while it was being inserted but I didn't feel a thing. According to WebMD, IUD usually are inserted more easily after a woman has given birth, which was true in my case.

So how does it work so well? The IUD is inserted in the uterus and the copper kills the sperm. (Copper is naturally toxic to sperm.) It also causes the uterus to produce fluid that kills sperms as well. After the Copper IUD was inserted, the doctor told me that I may have some light spotting or cramping and that I had to come back in 6 weeks to check placement. I did have light cramping but no bleeding. When I came back to my follow up appointment everything was where it should be.

You are also required to check placement of your IUD after your menstrual cycle because the cramps from your cycle may cause the IUD to shift out of place. Checking is easy, there is a string that hangs down from the IUD out of the cervix which you can feel for. If you feel it, you are okay.

Check with your gyenecologist if you are a woman interested in long term birth control. You are a good candidate if you have one partner (or can definitely make sure you use condoms everytime) you don't have a pelvic infection and you desire to not have extra hormones in your body.

According to webmd.com, the risks from the Copper-T include, increased menstrual bleeding or cramping, it moray puncture or get stuck in the uterus (approximately 1-1000 women), or it may be ejected from the uterus no longer protecting you from pregnancy.

After two years of use so far, I can say that I have had no problems or discomfort with my Copper-T IUD.
