There are good and bad things about this treatment that I will go over. In my opinion, this treatment has made my life easier (I know, sad that a hair treatment can change a life). First, let's tell you more about the treatment and the differences between this treatment and other straightening processes. Coppola, unlike other straightening treatment, does not use formaldehyde, but instead uses Aldehydes, which are supposed to be safer. It is also not permanent and wears out gradually after three to six months depending on your hair type and what you do to it. I am naming this review "Part 1" because I am at the end of my third week after the treatment and will write another review once it starts to "wear off".
Ok so before I go into how much I am in love with this treatment so far, I will go into exactly what the process is and my experience with it. First I made sure that the salon I went to was using the Coppola Keratin Treatment (Keratin Complex smoothing therapy by Coppola), this is very important because there are many different treatments that have similar names such as the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. To make sure you can call the local distributor and ask them what salons they distribute to in your area. You can visit http://www.keratincomplex.com/for the phone number and details on that.
After researching I found a local salon that performs the treatment, this salon charged $75 an hour for the treatment (I know yikes). I did not choose to but you can go in for a consultation where they can look at your hair and give you more information and a quote (should be a free service). When I arrived the day of my appointment I was shampooed and hair blown dry. Once my hair was completely dry my stylist took small sections of hair and brushed the treatment on similar to when you get your hair dyed. This process took a while because she wanted to make sure she got every piece of hair and had enough treatment on each section. I have mid back length hair so it was a process but very relaxing. Also I would like to mention that the treatment really did not have any strong smell or anything like I heard other treatments have. After she finished brushing on the solution I had to sit for 20 minutes to let it soak in. After the 20 minute wait the hair is blow dried again with the solution still in it until it was completely dry, then flat ironed section by section so that the keratin was bonded to the hair shaft. My hair looked great after the treatment and didn't look like it had anything really in it.
Ok so that was the process which for me took 3 hours. Now the bad part (well wasn't really too bad), you cannot wash your hair for 72 hours, use any clips or ties in your hair and can only use a cap when showering for a short period of time. I thought this would be the worse three days ever because I usually wash my hair everyday and tie it up when I sleep but it wasn't too bad. My hair looked a bit greasy on the third day but was still presentable, I slept with it down and it was fine when I woke up. It is recommended that if you get any hair wet or it bends to blow dry and flat iron that section right away. The other bad thing was the cost I spent about $300 plus tip. I am a frugal person but this I still think was worth it because it saves me so much time everyday and my time is worth money!
Ok so here I am three weeks later loving the treatment. The first few days after washing it, it was really flat but now it has volume and is straight and frizz free! The best part is that I can go out with my hair wet and it dries perfectly! I have never been able to do that ever! I use the Coppola Shampoo and conditioner with my treatment hoping it will make it last longer because it contains keratin but you can use any Sulfate Free shampoo such as Bert's Bee's. I also use the Keratin Replenisher as a leave in but you do not have to. So the only bad things about the treatment is that it is expensive and that you have to wait three days to wash your hair but in my opinion so worth it! I am probably saving money not having to blow dry and flat iron my hair for hours anyway. Keep in mind everyone's hair is different but I have read nothing but good things about this treatment and will update you with my progress as I get closer to my 3-6 months and will try to get my picture up so you can see my hair.

Post a CommentComparing Coppola Keratin to Brocato smoothing system is much like comparing a fresh apple to an over-ripened tomato. Brocato's main ingredient is Ammonium Bisulfate which is NOT organic and strips hair color. I prefer Aldehydes (organic) because it rebuilds the hair instead of compromising it.
Keratin treatment is horrible! It is akin to using embalmment on live people! The smell is suffocating and it irritates your eyes, airways and scalp. I believe it can provoke a severe asthma attack in a predisposed person. Some people experience severe hair loss following the treatment. I am surprised it is not illegal. More so, it is highly advertised. I know it is a huge money maker and big money shut a lot of mouths... But customers, please be aware that you will be wasting your big money while poisoning yourself and potentially your family too. No matter how good the hair would look (if it does) it is not worth it getting a cadaver treatment!
Hi, Sorry I haven't logged on in a while but I am still loving this process. Someone mentioned doing it myself and believe me I have definitely thought about having a friend do it but just scared we will mess it up lol I am so spoiled by this treatment! I am now on my third treatment and I absolutely love it still. I am 3 and a half months into my third treatment and now I have to blow dry it a little longer then last Month and the frizz is just starting to come back but it still is 80% better then what my hair was like before Copolla! Plus this is with using no serums etc so if I add a little of the infusion and blowdry it in it still looks so shiny and nice! I am going to try and wait til my 5 or 6th month before doing it again since its winter now I should be able to.
Im Black and I have been natural for 3 years now.... I have type 4 hair, I recently got the treatmeant done for Free. Ultra needed models to demonstrate on so of course of volunteered . I didnt get the regualar treatment which last for a few months but I got the Express treatment which lasts about 4 weeks depending how much you wash. Being Black we dont ws our hair as frequently so Im hoping it last 6 weeks but then again my hair is kinky. Anyway, I have had the treatmeant about 2 weeks now and this stuff is Awesome, I recently washed my hair and my girls did revert back but they are much looser and manageable. I didnt even use a comb but my hair was flat ironed before I washed it. Im so excited! I want to share this with the natural hair comuunity. It seems as though they are still left in the dark about it. Im thinking about sharing my experience and before and after pics or even a youtube video... Im so to have found this product bc I was becoming frustrated with my hair. Although
The girl in our office has the Coppola system it has been 6 months her curl is starting to come back andshe does not want to get it done for the winter butshe still wear's it straight & it looks better then I have ever seen her hair look the frizz is gone it's shiny & more managable. I have talked to her about the system and the amount of aldahyde in the product is less then 1% and used to staybalize the product. Some people get a reaction but some people are alergic to strawberry or other natural products so it's not that the product is not save some are more sensative then others so they should stay away from the product. However that does not affect everone.
I just applied the treatment myself after purchasing it online. I found it $120/8 oz bottle. My hair was naturally curly, kinky and coarse. I used 3 oz and followed the directions on the bottle. I previously had it done in March 10 and June 10 at Ulta paying $195 each time. The first time they used 2oz and they tell you if they need more it's $30 extra. The second time she only used 1.5 oz and it was not enough product. They make their $$ on the product on. $780 for 4 treatments from an 8oz bottle and I got 4 treatments for $30. It turned out as perfect as the salon. I would advise to purchase this online.
I'm so interested in this process - i would love to hear from someone with kinky hair who has tried the process? if you have kinky hair - please share your story! thank you!!!
Mr. T, That is very interesting because I am very sensitive, I break out and get hives and this treatment did not affect me in any way. Your comment really concerns me! I have done it twice and I have done research and I haven't found any evidence that it is dangerous but I am going to do a bunch more research on the ingredients now!Where did you find info on the Coppola Smoothing Treatment specifically being a health risk? Please respond thanks!
I am a stylist of 10 years...I have used African American relaxers for a while, perms, u name it...our salon heard about the Coppola smoothing treatment and were excited to try it. During our training, our model during the blowdry part of the system said her nose was burning, her eyes were burning, and her inside of her chest was burning. The trainer said she was just "sensitive." After her, we had another stylist try the treatment. Same results, burnining smell, irritation of the eye...after she went home, she called me and said her eye had swell like she had a black eye..where her bangs touched her forehead..and she couldn't pull it back..so ...the treatment works...it does what it says...I am for it...but, I did some research and found out that there are lots! of health risks! so I informed my boss, and we took it off our shelves....
Jessica My hair felt actually better a few weeks after because at first it was very flat to the head then as weeks go on it got volume but stayed frizz free and straight. I will be writing abut my second time soon! Its not as exciting though since my hair was still nice from the first time and the place i went to because it was 'on sale' didn't use enough product in my opinion. more to come...
