Cops on Television

Everyone knows the catchy theme song by the reggae band Inner Circle, you know the one...".bad boys bad boys watcha gonna do". Yes, it is the television show Cops. Cops was created in 1988 by John Langley for Fox Network, and is now running strong in its 19th season. Cops has won numerous awards and now has had over 1000 episodes. Cops air on the Fox Network and on other syndicating networks for re-runs. On cops you will see real police stops. The police stops are taped by a camera man who rides with the police officers; it is a totally unscripted television show.

Cops is one of the original reality shows. It is raw reality; it shows us what is going on in and around our community's crime wise. There are no million dollar prizes to be won on this show, and no models and definitely no wanna be actors trying to make it on this show. You see the homeless, the drug abusers, and the dark side of our cities most prefers to ignore. Cops shows us that this is not a perfect world and no matter where we live there is a dark underbelly. They do show us crime amongst mostly the poor, which some have criticized. I do feel though that they are just depicting a part of America's crime, not all of it, as there are other shows that do show us crimes of the more wealthy. It also shows us that there are police officers out there fighting crime. I like the show because you do see all kinds of crimes and you get to visit lots of different cities. They show that crimes are universal. The show has segments from many different places because crime does not discriminate. They also show that although there may be corrupt police offers out there, there are also passionate ones. Officers who really do want to help and do like doing their job.

Cops is a very entertaining and educational television show. It tells the truth about lives of the people that some of us forget about, Cops gives you another perspective. Also you get to see different police officers styles and how they interact with the criminals. You also see how the Police do try and provide help for people out there. You see how our police officers put their lives on the line on a daily basis.

I wish the next reality show would be "Police Brutality And How Cops Get Away With It."
