She spent much of her time running her Groups and counseling those in need. She ran groups for various mental health conditions such as BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), Suicidal Ideation, Self Mutilation, Mothers who had given birth to Still Born Babies to name merely a few.
My sister has been commuting between Australia and Pakistan for a number of years now and on one of her recent visits 'home' she joked that people had called her the Mother Teresa of the Internet (on yahoo and facebook).
She was running an academy in Rawalpindi to teach people how to speak English and she was planning to set up charitable organisations and NGO's and was already feeding the poor and elderly in Pakistan.
Yesterday, whilst trying to inform my sister's internet friends that she had died (as is the polite and correct thing to do) Facebook disabled my account. No warning. No trial to prove me guilty of some misdemeanor. They literally threw away my key.
They did on a number of occasions get me to prove I was 'human' by asking me to type and copy in some letters from one of those 'capta' type boxes, but apart from that no other warnings.
Meanwhile I still feel a complete imperative to continue in the task I was performing when disabled. Grieving and bereavement is a stressful time and Facebook have compounded our family's loss.
Not only have they disabled my account but I believe they have just about completely disabled a secret group I was running on facebook that had dedications, songs, hymns, many, many condolences and information about her cause of death. This group can only be accessed by invitation. If indeed Facebook have done this then I believe their actions are akin to some crime such as stealing sacred objects from a funeral parlor. .
Facebook have completely interrupted the grieving process for me, my family and its extended members plus other close friends and associates of hers.
Also largely disassembled is another more public Memorial Group set up in her honor.
I received instruction from facebook on how to respond to 'my problem' over twenty four hours ago. Fifteen hours later I had received no response from them so this morning I sent them the following email;
I responded to this request about 15 hours ago and have since heard nothing.
I feel this matter is urgent and I am currently trying to ring
Facebook Headquarters.
I can see I will have to wait til USA biz hours.
156 University Ave.
Palo Alto, CA 94301-1605
Phone: 650-543-4800
Fax: 650-543-4801 .
I pls hope you respond very soon.
I am tempted to take this to the media otherwise. I imagine my account was disabled becoz I was trying to email all of my recently deceased sister's friends to inform this and let them know any details they may want to know and let them also know about memorial groups etc. this issue could, I imagine cause quite an international stir.
Thank you and please respond with humanity, sympathy and deep understanding whilst enabling my account and not touching anything that belongs to my sister and our family.
Whilst you're at it perhaps such issues as are raised in my article (link provided below) be considered. Please make sure to forward this email to someone high up in the facebook management chain.
What facebook is doing to me and our family is inhumane.
I have already posted one article here;
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2990428/the_arrogant_internet.html?cat=35
END OF EMAIL.
Over twenty four hours later I have no response. So I am about to send a copy of this article to (initially) the morning breakfast shows on Australian National Television. I have limited energy for causing a 'ruckus' just now - but do so as Facebook is thwarting the grieving process of hundreds, and possibly thousands of people..
I also just got informed by an extended family member that facebook has sent messages out to all my friends saying that, "they have been deleted and blocked" by me. Now that sounds to me like defamation of my character. Such an impersonal, rude message could be considered quite offensive and if Facebook dismantled my sisters profile such a message could indeed be upsetting to the many, many people who considered her somewhat of an internet Saint. She touched deeply the hearts of so many that such a message would be deeply offensive and hurtful.
Also if all her very meaningful content and posts were removed from the many groups she administered and frequented there could be many people who could be unduly and unjustly upset and/or angry.
Thanks and don't be too surprised soon if you hear about a fighting fund and there is a public call for donations and support.
Please show your support by leaving your comments down the bottom of the page here as I sure feel I need it just now.
Keep posted.

Post a CommentBecause they have automated programs (bots) that monitor the number of messages that you are sending out in a day. If you send out too many they assume that you are a spammer or a bot and disable your account. I hate facebook sometimes, they're reliance on bots just adds to how impersonal they can be now that they've grown so fast. My heart goes out to you for facebook compounding your grief. I hope that they will reinstate your account but you may have to really publicize this in order to get them to notice.
Why would Facebook do this? It makes no sense.
