Five basic rules given below will help you each time as a reliable checklist. Use them thoroughly. It is important to subject each copy against these rules. Once you do, your copy will be correct overall.
1. A cardinal rule is to revise your written copy. Try to apply all criteria to find out errors; grammatical, continuity, content, relevance, etc. Do read and correct several times. Check the copy in its entirety. Pause and revise again to ensure enhanced and precise presentation of your content resulting in an effective copy. Check for the smallest of errors as well as major ones. Occupy yourself with this step until you are fully satisfied with the final outcome. If not, do it once more.
2. Take special efforts to construct lucid sentences. It captures the attention of readers. When the sentences are lucid, content flows smoothly and look precise. Avoid words which are difficult to understand. The purpose of your copy is to propose to the reader in simple terms.
3. Your sentences should look meaningful, short, and sweet. Demarcate a paragraph for an idea. Expand the idea in that paragraph to the required degree. Follow it up with another paragraph for the next idea. Repeat as necessary. This ensures theme continuity and interpretation easy for the reader. An interested reader reads ahead and reads more. Lucid and logical content makes it perfect for understanding. Strive to make your copy thoroughly intelligible.
4. Through the length of your write up, maintain focus on your content. What you need to do is to enhance your main theme. It is done in various ways. It can be in the form of a virtual service, a product selling proposition etc. Focus on content is important because you are writing about an idea. Never deviate from the central idea. You may only build around it, not bypassing it. Focus on the content keeps the reader a captive audience.
5. Strive to make your copy precise in understandable layman's terms. You need to understand your copy will be read by diverse people. Make sure that everyone would understand it. It becomes your primary goal to make your copy talk in a straightforward and friendly way. By doing this, initial attention is grabbed. Then the reader completes reading the whole piece. Completely avoid high sounding technical jargon. It will only scare potential readers away from reading ahead. Allow the customer reading your copy to think in interactive terms. That ensures their undivided attention from which arises engagement in your copy.
