Coral Bay - a Small Town in Paphos, Cyprus

Denise Larkin
Coral Bay has a lot to offer. This small town is a great place for a vacation having the best beach in the whole of Paphos. The beach is sandy and the sea is safe to swim in.

Many tourists stay in this town, because they want to be near a beach. There are lots of water sports available on the beach too, such as, Para-gliding, scuba diving, jet skis, banana rides, speed boat hiring, pedalos, windsurfing and canoes. There is also a DJ on the main beach of Coral Bay playing some brilliant tunes over the weekend. I know this because I lived in this area for 4 years. There is another beach called Corrallia Beach, but it's a lot smaller, quieter and more unique. The beach is part of the Corrallia Beach Hotel, but anyone can visit it.

There are, also, plenty of places to eat and drink just up the road from the beach. There are humorous restaurants, tavernas and bars, along with a cocktail bar and one nightclub called Starlight, which is open until about 5 a.m. A popular place to go to for a drink, like a cocktail or a meal is Blazzing Saddles. They usually have entertainment and music on most weekends. They, also, have pool tables and large screens for sporting events.

Other pubs to visit are Kikkos, Hectors and Kleos. Kleos has a dance floor, so it's like a small night club. Hectors Bar is a new bar, which opened on 29th May 2009. They serve food and drink and have free Wifi access if you want to bring a laptop along. They, also, have a great programme of events in winter and summer months, such as, disco night on Saturdays, sport events, poker nights and more. Their breakfasts are without a doubt the best in Coral Bay.

Coral Bay mostly, caters for families and couples and is generally a quiet place to stay. In winter, it is generally quieter in Coral Bay, so there isn't much going on in January and February months, as most restaraunts and bars are closed.

Coral Bay, also, have a few shops which do come in handy too, especially the supermarkets and souvenir shops. The biggest supermarket in Coral Bay is called Phillopos, which is very new. They, also, have another Phillipos in Peyia, which is the closest nearby village.

The hotels in Coral Bay are all 4 or 5 star. They are Ascos Beach Hotel, Coral Beach Hotel, Crown Resort Horizon, Aquasol Holiday Village, Corrallia Beach Hotel and Neptune Apartments. The most popular hotel, in my opinion, is the Crown Resort Horizon. They have a great spa, gym, indoor pool and a hairdresser there.

There is transport in the form of a bus and this runs until eleven o'clock at night in high season and in low season it runs until 6.30 p.m. from Coral Bay into Paphos. There is, also, a bus that goes to Polis. This bus runs in high season only from Coral Bay. There are a couple of car hire shops available if you want to hire a car and venture further afield, such as visiting Troodos mountains, Nicosia (the capital), Polis and Latchi Beach. From Coral Bay you can visit the centre of Paphos very easily, as it's only a straight road into Paphos, which takes you straight into the Tomb of the Kings Road.

So, if you want to visit Cyprus for a vacation or perhaps you are looking for a village to move to within Cyprus, then Coral Bay is a great destination.
