Corey Haim Dead at 38

Former 80s heart throb Corey Haim has died at age 38. He had been found at his unit at Oakwood Apartment Complex. His mother had been home with him at the time.

According to KTLA, the LAPD reported that Corey Haim had died at 2:15 a.m. today of apparent overdose. Police had found four prescription bottles inside his apartment. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.

Corey Haim had made his mark in Hollywood starring in a number of 80s movies including Lucas, Murphy's Romance, The Lost Boys, License to Drive, and Dream a Little Dream. He and Corey Feldman worked together in numerous films. Fans called them The Two Coreys.

In the 1990s, Corey Haim's career struggled and he ended up doing mostly direct-to-video films. He filed for bankruptcy in 1997. In the early 2000s, Haim acknowledged substance abuse problems. He went into rehab and was put on prescription drugs, which he began to abuse.

In 2006, Corey Haim appeared to be on his way to a comeback. He and Corey Feldman had landed an A&E reality series The Two Coreys. However, by 2008, Feldman had distanced himself from Haim because of Haim's substance abuse problems.

While Corey Haim's story is tragic, it is all too common in Hollywood (making it even more tragic). We've seen so many great talents like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson leave before their time. And we continue to see younger stars like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan on a destructive path.

So many former child/teen stars such as Maureen McCormick and Jodie Sweetin struggle with substance abuse problems. Bridgette Anderson, an 80s child actress, was most famous for her role in Savannah Smiles. She also appeared in a number of TV movies and films. She played Rose' granddaughter on The Golden Girls and Mary on The Parent Trap II with Hayley Mills. She later struggled with heroin addiction and died in 1997 of accidental overdose. She was just 21.

It's sad to see Corey Haim succumb to such an untimely end. He seemed genuinely dedicated to turning his life around and reviving his career.
