Corey Haim Dead in Suspected Prescription Overdose

Corey Haim is dead to the shock of his many fans over the year. With Corey Haim dead, another former teen icon has met an untimely, infamous end. At his peak, the "Lost Boys" star was one of the two biggest teen stars around along with frequent screen partner Corey Feldman. The duo faded from the A-list as quickly as they arrived, but they remained united in pop culture. Yet Feldman must now go on alone, with Corey Haim dead at the age of 38.

This morning, the actor was found in a Los Angeles apartment, already beyond the point of no return. He was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. in a Burbank hospital, and when the news got out, drugs were immediately suspected.

Haim, like countless teen stars before him, had a notorious drug problem and a very public fight to recover. There were no illegal drugs found in the apartment, but according to coroner Ed Winter, four prescription drug bottles were recovered. Winter also told US Magazine that Haim had "flu-like symptoms" in his final days.

Corey Haim is dead after following the 80s teen formula to a t. He broke out in the 1986 film "Lucas" and became even bigger in 1987's "Lost Boys" It was then that he united with Corey Feldman, and "The Two Coreys" became inseparable - but that applied to their downfall and addictions as well.

Their struggles were documented in the A&E series "The Two Coreys" a few years ago. But although Feldman currently seems to be on the mend, it may not have been the case for Haim. However, it looks to be prescriptions that did him in and not illegal substances. Yet his past addictions were certainly a factor in how he got to this point.

With the news that Corey Haim is dead, fans and the press are once again writing the same old Hollywood story. Once more, a young star let addictions get the best of him, although Haim may have lasted longer than some expected. Some may even be surprised that he went before Feldman, at that.

Yet no matter how it happened, the death of Corey Haim is just the latest blow to 80s movie fans. They already lost John Hughes last year, as the Oscars reminded them on Sunday. Now Haim, whose fame and addictions may have eclipsed his actual movies, is the latest star mourned by the past generation.

However, Haim still has a few direct-to-DVD movies still coming out - and one of them, "American Sunset" conveniently released a trailer today.
