Corey Haim Family Unable to Pay for Funeral, Forcing His Former Possessions to Be Sold on Ebay

Could Former Child Star Paul Petersen and His Support Group Help Other Troubled Young Actors?

Jan Corn
Corey Haim's death at age 38 was terribly sad, particularly since the star had shown such early talent in movies such as Lucas and The Lost Boys. Like many child actors, however, he seemed to have trouble transitioning into adult roles. He admitted to drug use and numerous rehab attempts. When he died, he was essentially living from week to week.

Tragically, things may have gotten so bad that even coming up with the money for funeral expenses for Haim is difficult. According to information found on an Ebay auction, seller Scott568 is letting bidders vie for former possessions of Corey Haim. The seller's name is Scott Schwartz and he worked with Haim in at least one movie, A Time to Live, according to information found on Ebay.

A current open auction includes an Italian personal jacket noted as belonging to Haim, listed as a Buy it Now Price of $399.95. Recently sold items include Corey Haim Uggs boots, sold for $399.95, a Taj Mahal bath robe ($299.95), Smash Blue Jeans ($129.95) and more. A Darksiders t-shirt went for $74.95. If auction bidding stays active, there could be enough raised to help pay for basic funeral costs. But Corey's mom may also need help since she is battling breast cancer.

Many Lament Corey Haim's Loss - so Why is Ebay Auction Necessary?

In spite of the hundreds of Facebook and Twitter messages indicating shock about Haim's death, the family seems to be in terrible financial straits. The Ebay seller, Scott568, notes that every penny is going to Corey's mother, Judy Haim, and that all proceeds will help to pay for Corey's funeral. At one point, before his death, Haim had tried to auction one of his teeth on Ebay but that auction had been pulled, since selling body parts is not allowed on the site. I recall the attempted sale of Haim's tooth on Ebay and the jokes that followed, many in terrible taste.

Hopefully, Haim's fans will step forward and bid on the Ebay auctions. If not, they can contribute directly through Paypal, according to the Corey Haim personal website, found here . Condolences and donations can be sent through the mail, too, and videos of Haim's appearance on San Diego Living can be seen from links at Corey Haim's website.

A Minor Consideration is a Non-Profit Group Available to Help Former Child Stars from Suffering Haim's Fate

Unfortunately, Haim's passing can't help but raise questions and memories of other child stars who were once famous but seemed to have lost their way, some still alive, others dying prematurely from various causes. Danny Bonaduce, the precocious child on The Partridge Family Show, lived out his turbulent life in a reality show as well as through many arrests. Lindsay Lohan had photos snapped which allegedly showed her drunk in a car. Are they in danger of meeting Corey Haim's fate?

Paul Petersen, former child actor on The Donna Reed Show, has formed a group called A Minor Consideration to help guide and support former child actors. The website has been in existence for eight years and Petersen has spoken out about the abuses and problems of early fame and later problems for actors. Currently, information about Corey Haim's death is at the website, along with resources for other child actors who may have difficulties. A Minor Consideration is a non-profit organization which has staff available to work with actors or their parents.

This is a sad story, I remember Corey Haim as a promising young actor from my youth.

In many ways, it seems like it is easier/better for modern child actors. They are better protected from being exploited by their momagers, etc. Stories like Drew Barrymore's childhood drinking and kids being forced to work obsessively are no longer par for the course. Living too fast seems to be their biggest obstacle, but that's common in non-celebrity kids these days.

Very sad but I am glad to see that they are doing something to raise the funds. They are certainly not the first family to be dealing with unbelievable funeral costs that cannot be afforded.

Drug addiction is a terrible thing. I hate that his mother is suffering his loss on top of her health issues as well. Great job on the article, Jan.
